Chapter 87
At the security hut of Greenmeadow International School, there was a public–address system connected to the school’s broadcast station. It was usually used to relay messages or call for students during class.
Typically, if students‘ parent came to pick them up, the guard would wait until a break between classes to make the announcement, allowing the student to meet their family.
However, the students of Greenmeadow International School often treated certain school rules with a pinch of salt. As long as they weren’t too conspicuous, the teachers turned a blind eye. Thus, the use of the public–address system for calling students had become a rare occurrence.
At the security hut, the guard was urgently trying to get a message to Everard, “What’s the deal? Didn’t we agree? You’re supposed to make the announcement after the morning exercise. Why’d you jump the gun?”
Everard stood there with his hands in his pockets, his chiseled features and perfect figure giving him the air of a movie star. Yet the guard softened his tone as he spoke to him, eventually taking on an almost pleading note Everard had asked the guard to call for Cordelia, claiming he was her family, which fell within the scope of the guard’s duties, so the guard had agreed.
Everard then mentioned that it was quite hot outside and asked to rest inside for a bit. The guard, bewitched, let him in. Moments later, while the guard stepped out to check on a situation at the gate, Everard seized the moment to use the public–address system.
Everard showed no sign of guilt. In a calm and nonchalant voice, he said, “Sorry, I didn’t watch the time.”
The guard was speechless.
While it was a mistake, it wasn’t a major one. Yet the issue was…
“Didn’t you say you were Cordelia’s family? That’s why I let you use the public–address system. How come you’re her boyfriend?”
The guard had thought, at most, this guy could be Cordelia’s brother! Or even if there was some kind of relationship, they would be more discreet about it. After all, this was high school, and dating was frowned
upon!
Everard leaned against the desk where the guard logged visitors, his tall stature making the small room feel cramped. He touched his nose and countered, “A boyfriend isn’t family?”
etor
The guard was left speechless, unable to retort.
On the playing field, the students erupted in laughter when they heard the announcement. Even the supervisor, who was overseeing the exercise, couldn’t help but glance at Cordelia.
Students from other classes teased, “Cordelia, better hurry to the guard’s hut. Don’t keep your boyfriend waiting too long!”
“Golly, what a riot!”
The jest was not malicious, but the butt of such jokes would inevitably feel a bit embarrassed.
And just as a classmate finished teasing, he felt a kick to his behind. Staggering forward, he blurted out, “Which jerk dared to kick me…”
