Chapter 113
1/2
Andrew knew Madelyn must be feeling down when he saw her not speaking, so he changed the topic. ” Grandma wants us to go to her place for lunch tomorrow. Are you coming?”
“Of course!” Madelyn nodded.
She needed to maintain a good relationship with the Millers, so she had to visit more often.
Andrew was relieved seeing her finally respond. He took her for a half–hour walk by the lake after dinner.
Madelyn’s phone kept ringing, but she ignored the calls. She returned to her room to pick up the phone only after they returned to the villa and Andrew entered the study.
“Hello.”
Amelia’s fawning voice sounded, “Matthew’s daughter Krista, is back from abroad. Victoria wants you to come with us tomorrow.”
Madelyn quirked an eyebrow. They had never invited her to such occasions, only Elena was. Yet now, Amelia was calling her with such a fawning attitude.
She assumed that Amelia would revert to her old ways once Elena temporarily weathered the crisis. But she wasn’t naive enough to believe that Amelia genuinely cared for her.
“I have plans tomorrow,” Madelyn flatly refused after a brief consideration.
“Maddie, I went to see you, but I can’t even get into Serenity Villa now, do you know that? I’m your mother, after all. Andrew shouldn’t treat us with such manners,” Amelia pointed out as she held her anger back.
Madelyn raised an eyebrow, remembering how Amelia had thrown the thermos at Serenity Villa’s gate. It seemed that Amelia’s pretense of kindness was an attempt to sow discord.
The fact that Amelia was her biological mother was truly laughable.
As the thought crossed Madelyn’s mind, she didn’t hold back from retorting, “If he didn’t respond like that wouldn’t you have sucked the life out of him?”
Amelia stammered, “What… What do you mean?”
Amelia hadn’t expected Madelyn to remain unyielding despite her humble approach.
