Chapter 58
Upon passing by, Madelyn threw Amella a mocking look that left her on edge. Yet, as memories of Victoria’s humiliation resurfaced,
Amella’s heart turned cold and hardened.
Madelyn approached Athena and casually hooked her arm through hers, deliberately asking, “What’s the talk about? You both seem pretty serious.”
Amelia couldn’t believe how close Madelyn and Athena appeared now. She had noticed Athena’s preference for Elena before and had seen how much she disliked Madelyn. How could things have shifted so dramatically?
Caleb and Amelia were already pretty shocked, especially after seeing Madelyn and Andrew’s display of affection earlier. They hadn’t realized Athena was also so close to Madelyn. Amelia found it hard to believe what she was seeing.
The Millers clearly favored Elena. Everything seemed to belong to Elena. What made Madelyn think she could claim any of it?
Athena gave Amelia a steely look.” Athena gave Amelia a steely look. “I raised my granddaughter–in–law. I know Maddie is a kind person.”
Her words shocked Amelia. She wondered what Athena meant.
Before Amelia could grasp it, she saw Athena glaring at her and saying, “You’ve really opened my eyes. I can’t believe you’d choose the daughter of a homewrecker over your own!”
Athena knew Amelia favored Elena but hadn’t expected her to take it this far.
During those years, Madelyn rarely visited the Miller residence after returning to the Garcia residence. Athena couldn’t imagine the hardships viadelyn endured living with the Garcias. She also couldn’t
understand how Amella and Caleb managed to keep Madelyn from returning to the Millers.
Amelia’s expression soured at Athena’s words, then turned pale. She yearned to offer a defense but was interrupted by Madelyn, “Grandma, please don’t be upset. It’s your birthday today. Let’s head downstairs.”
“Alright.” Athena stood up and gestured for a maid to show Amelia out. Her dismissal was clear and decisive.
As they exited the study, Athena patted Madelyn’s hand sympathetically. “Maddie, you’ve endured so much hardship.”
Reflecting on how Amelia had treated Madelyn just now, Athena was dismayed. Even if Madelyn had really done it, shouldn’t Amelia, as her mother, feel compelled to protect her? Yet, Amelia seemed more intent on bringing trouble to Madelyn than anyone else.
Madelyn smiled warmly. “Grandma, I feel no hardship with you around.”
“Sweetheart, you should go see Andrew.”
Meanwhile, Amelia and Caleb were shown out of the Miller residence under the watchful eyes of the maids. This time, they keenly felt the sting of humiliation.
Senior discuss earlier?”
He couldn’t fathom why they were abruptly shown the door after Amelia’s brief conversation with Athena. They were Andrew’s parents- in–law, yet they endured such humiliation today. What stung most was Madelyn’s silence. She didn’t lift a finger to defend them, choosing instead to stand by and observe.
