Chris‘ tone couldn’t sound any harsher. 

“I understand you, Chris. No matter what I do, Mrs. Gildon won’t like me. I’m sorry for dragging you into this emotional mess.” Jewel had gotten the gist of it. 

Nevertheless, her apology was self–effacing. She hadn’t done 

anything that warranted it. Even if she had, it would’ve been due to her overwhelming love for him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have endured those grievances for him.
