Chapter 350 He Finally Has a Home
"Louis disclosed that the secret contact was the Fortune Company in Porema. After investigating, we found that the Fortune Company is actually a front for an underground money laundering operation. They may have a legitimate facade, but they are involved in some shady business," Remington explained.
Adam nodded in agreement, saying, "I'm aware of that. The Revenant Sect has been involved in money laundering for a while, but they've always kept me from it and been cautious and wary of me."
Cecelia added, "Of course! Jed Landis couldn't fully trust you. After all, you have lost your momeries, and there's a chance you might regain them at any time. So, from the beginning, he saw you as a tool and not one of his own."
Remington continued, "Following the lead of the underground money laundering operation, we discovered that the Revenant Sect has close ties with a mysterious organization overseas. They could either be partners, or the Revenant Sect might just be a subsidiary of that massive entity. We need to continue our investigation."
Adam understood that rooting out the Revenant Sect wouldn't happen overnight. It would require meticulous understanding and investigation.
But what concerned him more was, "Cecelia, I'm not worried about the Revenant Sect. As long as they dare to cause trouble, I won't let them get away with it! What I'm more worried about now is Mom. When are we going to find her?"
Cecelia held his hand, feeling somewhat strained. "I was just about to talk to you about that. Tomorrow, I'll be heading to Porema, and our next step is to find Mom."
"Good, I'll go with you."
"Alright."
The vehicle returned to Bluebell Mansion, and Cecelia led her brother through the entrance.
The last time Adam had been here, he was suspected and sent away by her, but today, she personally brought him in.
"Kevin, this is where I stay in Center City. From now on, it's our home!" she said as she walked in.
Adam nodded and followed his sister inside, while Remington instructed someone to bring in Adam's belongings.
Cecelia arranged a room for Adam and said, "This will be your room from now on. If you feel like anything needs adjusting, just let me know, and I'll have it done."
"No need, this place is perfect!"
Adam walked into the room and, seeing a room finally belonging to him, tears welled up in his eyes.
He finally had a place to call home!
Finally a place to harbor his heart after years of rootlessness!
What touched him the most was the photo wall on one side of the room, adorned with many childhood photos of him, pictures of him and his sister, and even photos of him with his mother.
Looking at the photos of himself and his dearest family members, Adam couldn't help but be moved to tears.
He wiped them away and then gazed at an empty large frame.
"Cecelia, why is there no photo here?" he asked.
"I thought we could wait for Mom to return, and then we'll take a family photo together."
"Sounds good."
He hoped to find his mother soon, so they could be reunited as a family. How wonderful that scene would be!
The room had been designed and arranged by Cecelia herself, and every detail radiated warmth. Adam felt the comforting embrace of a real home.
He sat down on the edge of the bed and tested its comfort. "Cecelia, I love it here. Thank you."
"That's great. Take your time settling in. I'll go downstairs to prepare dinner."
With a smile at her brother, Cecelia turned and headed downstairs.
Downstairs, Remington had already prepared the ingredients and placed them in the kitchen. Cecelia came over, tied on an apron, and started preparing dinner.
Cecelia worked efficiently in the kitchen, and Remington joined in, helping her with some tasks like picking vegetables.
"I don't need your help here; you can go out for now," Cecelia told him.
Remington felt an urge to stay close to her, even if she can cook with a single hand and he wasn't needed in the kitchen.
While she was cooking, he stood behind her, keeping her company. "I want to watch you cook," he said.
He found immense pleasure in observing Cecelia during the cooking process. Watching her delicate hands and the way she handled ingredients were like watching an artist at work.
He even used his phone to capture moments of her cooking. At times, when she was busy, he would suddenly call out to her, "Cece!"
"Hmm?" Cecelia turned around, and he would steal a quick kiss on her cheek.
"Stop it! Don't distract me like that!" Cecelia scolded him, but Remington didn't seem to mind at all.
With his chin resting on her shoulder, he couldn't keep his hands still.
"Hey! If you keep this up, I won't be able to cook at all!" Cecelia shrugged her shoulders, trying to shake him off, but he only clung tighter.
Well, they were in the honeymoon phase of their relationship, after all!
Neither of them wanted to be apart.
Upstairs, Adam came down and saw the cozy scene in the kitchen. He didn't interrupt them but smiled and headed out to the garden.
There, he wandered around until a Nelson car arrived, carrying Winger and Fredric Ingerwood along with the four kids.
Hearing the excited voices of the kids, Adam quickly approached them. "Hey there, little rascals!"
When the kids saw Adam, they all stopped and stared at him curiously.
"Who is this uncle?" Doris asked in her sweet, childish voice, with her head slightly tilting.
Adam crouched down and introduced himself with a smile, "I'm not some uncle; I'm your uncle! I know you're Doris, but who's Max, Cyrus, and Andres? Let me get to know my nephews!"
Cyrus was the mischievous one, his big grape-like eyes spinning around mischievously as he challenged his uncle, "Since you're our uncle, why don't you try to guess who we are? If you get it right, you can be our uncle, but if you get it wrong, you won't get another chance."
"Oh? You want to test me? Alright, I'll give it a try!"
Adam observed the little ones carefully. He had only seen them in photos before, and it was a bit challenging to recognize them in person.
After a moment of thought, he pointed at one of them and said, "You must be Cyrus, right?"
"Correct! How did you know, Uncle?" Cyrus called Adam Uncle, making him quite pleased. "I heard you talk a lot, and you were the most talkative."
"Um..." Cyrus stuck his tongue out and grimaced, admitting that Uncle was right.
Adam then looked at the other two, both of whom were rather quiet. It was a bit difficult to distinguish them when they were side by side.
However, that didn't deter Adam. He pointed at the one who was frowning and said confidently, "You must be Max, right?"
"How did you know?" Max asked.
"Your mom told me you often frown and act like an old man. Boy, you shouldn't be so serious at your age!" Adam explained with a smile.
"Hmph!" Max crossed his arms and rolled his eyes at his new uncle, thinking that this uncle wasn't good at giving compliments.
What was it supposed to mean when his uncle said he acted like an old man?
"That leaves you as the timid one, Andres!" Adam said, looking at the last boy.
"I'm not timid!" Andres retorted, frowning to show he hated to be call timid.
In retaliation, Andres plunged, grabbed Adam's neck with his little arms, and shouted to his brothers, "Max! Cyrus! Surround him!"
The other two kids rushed over to grabbed their uncle, and together with Doris, they playfully wrestled and tickled Adam.
"Help! They're bullying their uncle!" Adam shouted jokingly as he played along with the kids.
He had never experienced such joyful moments of playing and bonding with his family before, and it made him genuinely happy from the bottom of his heart.
Inside the house, Cecelia and Remington, unaware of the commotion outside, heard someone yelling for help and rushed out to see what was happening.
