Chapter 158: The vampire and the human

Few minutes ago in the part of the forest where Belle was and was surrounded by Cordelia and her friends.

"Beat her up!" Cordelia ordered her lackeys, an evil smile gracing her face as she watched fear register in the heart of the human, even though she did not show it on her face.

Cordelia might have lost her father’s backing, but she had begun to carve a path to the top with the wealth of the Cliftons, and her friends who had turned their backs on her had come back to her, and were eager to please her enough that they had all jumped at the mention of helping her take her sweet revenge today.

Joshua Clifton was an easy man to manipulate without her even compelling him. He liked beautiful and alluring women; all she had to do was appear innocent and beautiful to him, and he was head over heels, so much so that he was already promising to divorce his useless wife and marry her.

The man was so naïve and stupid that she couldn’t help but like him for what he could give her. Now, all she had to do was get rid of her cousin’s wife, and she would be at peace with her upcoming new life of wealth.

At her words, one of her friends moved to do the work of beating up the human. It was a vampiress with short, neck length hair and glistening light red eyes that showed she wasn’t a pureblood.

"Stephanie, how good of you. I want you to break both her legs and hands, make sure she will never be able to walk with them," Cordelia said to her friend. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Consider it done, Cordie. I will disfigure her in no time," said the vampiress, whose name was Stephanie. She looked more like a hooligan than a noble, with her hairstyle and stance. She handed her weapon to another member and began to step toward the human she planned to beat black and blue today.

Though Belle tried to mask her fears, she was terrified, and despite herself, her feet began to step back as the vampiress walked toward her, cracking her knuckles and turning her neck, a smirk playing on her face.

Belle had no fighting skills, and even if she did, her strength would never compare to that of a vampire. She couldn’t run nor hide, and Cordelia’s earlier remarks about Rohan being "taken care of" still lingered in her heart, squeezing it with an unease so sharp it made her believe the vampiress hadn’t been bluffing, something had happened to him.

She wouldn’t have worried that he would be harmed if she had not seen how he was trying to hide his vulnerable state and weakness when they were together. What could they have done to him?

Belle backed away until her back hit the tree behind her, and the vampiress who came to stand before her laughed.

Belle’s heart was beating so fast she could hear it pounding in her head and ears. She did not look forward to being beaten or even killed here, and she reached out her hand to clutch her crossbow, which she had dropped against the tree last night when she went to meet Rohan.

However, before she could grab it, the vampiress raised her hand, grabbed a handful of her hair, yanked her forward, and shoved her to the ground, causing her elbow to crash hard against a boulder. Pain shot through her arms and knees, but she hurriedly turned around, crawling back in a scramble of panic.

From the corner of her eye, Belle saw Cordelia laughing like she was thoroughly enjoying the show, while from the other side, Lady Benedict and her friend slowly zipped their tent closed and slipped back inside, clearly not wanting to get involved.
