Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 184

Chapter 184: Leaving Nightbrook

It took more than an hour for the heart to attach to his body, and Belle, who had thought that immediately it attached to him, he would be fine, was stunned when he went still, and the part where the heart had gone in was glowing red, with a few of the tendrils of the root still sticking out.

Gwen and Rav had arrived and stood guard at the side in case the rogues returned.

Belle was about to start panicking all over again when Rohan suddenly went still. Then Kuhn, who had disappeared earlier, reappeared and stopped her from going near him. His sudden interference pushed her over the edge and made her lose the little patience and frustration she had been holding in.

"It will take time for him to regain himself and heal. He should be put to rest. Do not interfere in the process of his healing again. You have done enough for the demon," Kuhn said coldly.

At his detached words, Belle, already emotionally raw and frustrated beyond words at the realization that her husband would need even more time to heal, turned sharply on the creature.

"You know what? Sometimes I don’t even know what’s the use of you! You run away when you are needed the most and then come back to speak in riddles and unclear things!" she snapped, her voice shaking. "He’s not just a demon. He’s my husband!" she gritted out as she dropped to her knees beside Rohan, who was no longer moving, nor was he breathing, on the wet ground of the forest.

She didn’t mean to seem ungrateful for all the help Kuhn had given her, but considering that he had been with Rohan far longer than she had, she had expected him to at least show that he cared.

Not to mention how he had disappeared when she had almost been attacked by Rohan and dropped the heart, he hadn’t helped her. Just like in the land of the dead, he had let her struggle alone, and now he stood here telling her not to interfere again, like Rohan was nothing.

"You’ve done enough. Go away," she muttered in resignation, brushing aside the wet, sticky strands of hair clinging to Rohan’s forehead.

Perhaps she was being ungrateful, but the disappointment settled heavily on her chest. She had hoped, expected, that once the heart attached, Rohan would wake up. That he would return to her immediately. But now, seeing him so still, she couldn’t help but feel helpless.

"I am going against the laws," came Kuhn’s words from the side. "I have gone against many laws of our land to help you. Rohan is the reason my master became an outcast. Master went against the law and did something that changed the course of time and many lives. Reapers do not interfere with anything in the living world, they are to only take souls, but Master interfered. I cannot interfere more than I have. Sorry."

Saying this, Kuhn disappeared before Belle could stop and question him about what he meant.

Gwen and Rav, who couldn’t see the creature, could only watch the lady silently, as to them, she seemed to be talking to herself.

Belle stared only briefly at where Kuhn had disappeared and looked back at her husband. She would think about what Kuhn had said later when this was over, but for now, her only concern was the unconscious man before her who had stopped breathing. If Kuhn had not told her it was part of the process, she would have been alarmed.

She looked at his bloody face that had turned normal and pale, and then she used her sleeve to wipe off the blood on his face. "Don’t worry, I will take care of you and get you away," she whispered to him, and then turned to Rav, "Hand me your cloak, I need to cover him."

Rav did not hesitate to take off the cloak, and as he handed the water-resistant cloak to her, he recalled a memory of when his lordship had taken his cloak to give to the lady, only now she was the one doing it.

When he saw the lady struggling to put the cloak around him because of her injured finger, he went on his knees and began to help her wordlessly. It was when he knelt beside her that he noticed she was shivering uncontrollable, but she did not seem to care about the cold.
