She balanced herself by sitting quickly on the side of the small bed, and with a careful movement, she began to soak a clean rag into the bowl of water, squeezed it, and brought it to his pale face to begin wiping off the remnant of the blood the rain did not wash away.
She slowly let her hand glide over every perfect angle of his serene-looking face, as if she were trying to memorize each contour. He looked so fragile lying on the bed, with only the blanket covering his body, as she had removed all of his clothes. He was completely naked beneath the blanket.
Despite the circumstances, Belle felt heat rush to her cheeks for the first time in days, a familiar sensation she hadn’t realized she missed until the surge of warmth overwhelmed her body. She no longer cared about modesty as she did in the past, he was her husband, and she had every right. She had stripped him bare and tenderly wiped his body, shamelessly admiring the form she had never truly had the chance to study before.
He was beautiful. From head to toe, and he was healing slowly from many of the bruises he had obtained in the forest while being rogue.
He had been through a lot, and she couldn’t help the feeling of wanting to protect him like he had for her. She wanted to give him all the love his parents had deprived him of, to hold him every night and tell him how much he meant to her. She wanted to love him with everything in her and heal him of all the pain and suffering...
The ship swayed again, and she slightly leaned towards his face. Not bothering to pull back, she used her finger to touch his lips that had turned pale pink. Then gently, she leaned down and pressed her lips against his.
"Wake up soon, Rohan. Don’t make me wait too long for your recovery..." she whispered against his lips, and then she turned her gaze to his chest, where the red glow that shone from within seemed to glow brighter.
She smiled. "I’ll take that as a sign that you can hear me. I will make sure to bring you to safety. No one will harm you again. I promise. No one."
She kissed the side of his lips and then moved back and pulled the blanket to cover his body properly after wiping his chest.
She stood up, but a bolt of dizziness made her sit back again for a moment before standing again.
"My lady, you should rest as well. I found pots and pans and foodstuffs in the gallery. I will put water for you to bathe and make you something to eat," Gwen said to Belle when she stepped up to the freezing deck, where the wind was harsh and she looked around at the vast ocean surrounding them and the fogs hovering low.
She could barely stand still on her feet as the ship kept swaying.
She felt nauseous at the sight of the ocean and the movement, and she clutched to a pole at the deck.
"Are there any clothes he can wear? It’s cold out here, and I don’t want him catching a cold in that state," Belle asked as she turned her eyes to the vampiress, who had changed her own clothes into a simple brown gown.
"Yes, there’s a sack of clothes in one of the rooms below the deck. I found the servants’ attires there and took one. Should I cook the meal?"
