Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 215

Chapter 215: Maintain

His wife was not a vampire, and the child she carried was part a creature that fed on blood. The doctor had mentioned that she was weak and wasn’t eating properly, but the right words were—she wasn’t taking blood that the child needed.

This was part of the reasons why he had been so worried learning about her pregnancy now. They were in a land where they could not just get access to blood supplies or hunt down humans too often. Compelling a human was easy to take their blood, and as safe as it might be, it wasn’t entirely safe, as their bite leaves a mark on the human, and if another human were to see the mark, they would realize it was done by a vampire.

She needed a constant supply of blood in this condition, and the more the child grew inside her, the more blood it would need.

If they were in Nightbrook, he knew he wouldn’t have to worry about getting blood from any random human, as no law could hold it against him. It was different here.

But that aside, he could not let his wife know that he had fed her blood in her medicine last night to test his theory when she woke up in pain.

He had gone to get the blood from one of the human servants in the house and put it in the medicine, and immediately she took it—though she had grimaced and gagged like she would vomit at the strange taste—the pain had instantly subsided, and she had slept all through the night like a baby. Even this morning, he had slipped away from her side, disentangled his limbs from hers without her stirring.

He had sent for Rav to meet him and had told him to get the blood and informed him of the plan. Now, after Rav had gotten the blood she would take this morning ready and stored, he had come to tell the master.

After they talked about how to make sure she takes the blood mix everyday, they remained silent outside the house, both of them lost in silent thoughts, until Rav broke the silence first.

"About what you told me a few days ago," Rav said, referring to the day Rohan had first woken up and come to him asking about everything that had happened. After Rav had filled him in on all that occurred during the time he was unconscious, Rohan had declared that he would return to Nightbrook and leave his wife here while he took revenge on every single one of those people.

"Do you still plan to do that now?"

Rohan’s hand, which had been reaching up to bring the cigar to his lips, froze mid-air at that question. Slowly, he lowered it, his gaze drifting upward toward the gloomy winter morning sky, and then he replied to Rav,

"That plan was made before I knew my wife was pregnant. It has to change now. I can’t go after King Zion and the rest while she is in this condition where she would need me by her side. Not until the baby is born—I will have to stay here."

"What about the wealth, my Lord? I don’t want to bring this up now, but since we will be staying here longer until she has given birth, the money here cannot take us that long. Most of your documents and gold are in the castle in Nightbrook. We had left unprepared, and the ones here are the ones you put in the lady’s name. To manage it, we will have to cut down on massive expenses and reduce the staff in the manor—and by doing that, it will mean we won’t have people to take blood from."

Rav had kept this worrisome news to himself, thinking there was no need to bring up the fact that the wealth here was only a quarter of what Rohan owned—because he believed the master still intended to leave, and that before they went bankrupt, he would have already secured everything back there.
