Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 56

Chapter 56: The letter_ Part 1

After Rohan left her chamber, Belle was left alone in the silent room with only the cracking fireplace as background noise. Later on, Farrah was sent to her, who helped her bathe and dress. It was morning, she realized after her bath, when the girl pulled open all the thick curtains that had been drawn over the window and balcony door to make the chamber look dark.

Though she felt much better, her limbs still felt a bit off and quivery when she stood up. She couldn’t even do her own hair and dress herself but had to allow Farrah to do it for her. While the girl was brushing her hair in front of the mirror, Belle’s mind was lost in countless thoughts that refused, no matter what she did, to leave her mind.

First, it was that strange dream, but that didn’t even bother her as much as the scar on the back of her husband and how he had warned her with that strange voice to forget about what she saw. What did he mean she should forget? How could one forget such a thing without an explanation of how he had gotten it? Was it in the asylum or before it? She’d heard that the asylum was a place so brutal some mad people had lost their lives because they couldn’t take the methods used to purge them to sanity, and some that were not mad and were taken there ended up going insane.

Rohan did not look mad. If he wasn’t mad before he was taken there, he should be mad by the time he was out. He puzzled her more than she wanted to admit, and it bothered her so much that she couldn’t know much about him. Why would he take care of her when he was said to hate humans and had even been heartless enough to watch his own parents die in his hands?

For a moment, when they had been lying on the bed talking, she had forgotten just who he was said to be. To be honest, she had never been as free around anyone as she had been around him just this morning. Everything about him was a puzzle she wanted so badly to understand and put together, but then she knew she shouldn’t even attempt it and should focus on why she was here in the first place.

Could it be that he had only taken care of her because he wanted to show he was better than the human doctors? He had twisted ways of doing things, and she knew she shouldn’t let her mind deceive her into believing that a man like him could care for someone else whom he had no reason to care for.

Belle was so lost in her thoughts that she jumped slightly when Farrah’s voice cut through her thoughts like a sharp blade. "Everyone was surprised that his lordship was caring for you. He had not allowed even me to come close to you when you were sleeping. He sent Sir Rav to keep us all out. You are lucky, my lady, because I heard the last human he had attempted to nurse had been gutted out and put together, but her life had long left her by that time. We had all feared he would do that to you too, but he didn’t. Even Sir Rav was shocked."

Belle saw the girl smile in the mirror as she brushed her hair and told her everything Rohan had done with precise details that stunned Belle a bit because it seemed the girl had been spying on them somehow when she had said Rohan had not allowed them in the chamber. As if reading Belle’s thoughts, her smile broadened as she said, "I know everything because I was kept to stay outside the room if his lordship needed me to get something for you."

Farrah had seen everything that went on in the room from the key hole in the door. "He fed you medicine through his mouth when you refused to take it," she said, not hiding her envy for the lady, who she thought was lucky to have a man like Lord Dagon take care of her and even seem to adore her more than he had anyone else before. If she could find a man like that, especially a vampire, all of her worries would be over, and she would never have to worry about being killed or taken back to the slave house.

Belle felt her face heat up as she remembered something warm feeding her medicine. She could never have guessed that he had given her medicine through his mouth!

What else had that man done when she was sick? She wondered but realized it was better she did not hear more of it, or she might really die of embarrassment or a heart attack. She’d heard that he had bathed her while he sat her on his lap in the tub and even cleaned her carefully and put her nightdress on for her. It was embarrassing enough that he had done all that, and even more unsettling that Farrah had spied on them and seen everything.

She saw the girl’s innocent face that always reminded her of her sister as she did her hair in the mirror, and when their eyes met, Farrah smiled sweetly and said, "You have lovely hair, my lady, and his lordship looked pleased brushing it for you when you slept in his arms. I wish I were you. You are lucky."

Belle did not feel lucky. She would have rather preferred he treated her like he treated everyone in his life; that way, it would have been easy to hate him and hold on to the resentment of him taking her ring away and insulting her love for another man. If he had not cared about her, she would not have now begun to want to know more about him.
