Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) novel Chapter 1303

Honestly, he didn't really have any friends around here. If he did, they were more Max's crowd. He and the locals of Beaconsfield barely knew each other.

Brielle stayed quiet, just wrapping herself tighter in the quilt.

King stood by the bed in silence for what felt like forever, waiting for her to say something. When she didn't, he started to change into his going-out clothes.

"I'm heading out, won't be back tonight."

Still, Brielle said nothing.

Annoyed, King slipped into his suit. "Nice suit, isn’t it? Fits me well. Probably going to turn some heads tonight."

The unspoken message being, if you don't stop me, someone else will catch my eye tonight.

Brielle, however, kept her eyes shut.

Knowing she wasn’t asleep and seeing her so indifferent, King just smirked bitterly.

He finished dressing, pulled open the door, and left the bedroom.

As soon as the door clicked shut, Brielle's eyes flew open.

She sat up, finding the room empty.

Hurrying in her slippers, she opened the door to check what was happening, nearly bumping into King who was on his way back in.

King had indeed changed into a suit and seemed surprised to see her out of bed.

"What are you doing up? Weren’t you sleeping?"

Brielle saw him head towards the phone on the counter, realizing he had come back for his forgotten mobile.

Her heart skipped a beat, and in a clumsy attempt to cover up her concern, she said, "Just felt a bit thirsty all of a sudden."

"Oh."

King's response was nonchalant as he grabbed his phone and headed downstairs.

Since the kitchen was on the first floor, Brielle followed him down, sneaking peeks at him. He was taking forever to put on his shoes, nearly ten minutes, and still not ready.

Brielle's action of filling a glass with water was equally slow, as if the faucet dripped one drop at a time.

After finally getting his shoes on, King checked himself over, though he should’ve been out the door within a minute. But with Brielle staying silent, he lingered, waiting to see if she'd ask him to stay.

By the time Brielle had her water and started back, her eyes stayed glued on King so much that she missed a step on the stairs.
