King froze, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.
A minute later, he asked, “Does it still hurt when you think about the past?”
Brielle had seen Emma today, bringing back snippets of old memories. Her head ached a bit, but it wasn't the sharp pain she used to feel.
"It's manageable. Seeing Emma today reminded me of some stuff from Stellar Stage Entertainment," she said, rubbing her temples. "But thinking about other things still feels like a needle in my brain."
King gently patted her head. "Then try not to think about it for now."
Brielle couldn’t help but hug him tightly. "King, you're so sweet."
King blushed, completely disarmed by her affection. He quickly opened a can of soup, scooping a spoonful to her lips. "Eat up, you don't want to get hungry later."
Brielle smiled at him, her lips curving up. It took half an hour to finish half a bowl of soup. Feeling a warm comfort in her stomach, she scooted over. "Why don't you come and nap with me?"
King saw how narrow the bed was and thought about asking the hospital for another bed, so they could push them together. But Brielle grabbed his sleeve, her eyes pleading. "I want to rest with you holding me."
King couldn’t refuse. He quickly tidied up the small table and wiped her fingertips with a wet wipe before lying beside her. Brielle instinctively snuggled into his arms. The bed was so small they couldn't even turn over, but she found it incredibly sweet, her smile never fading.
"King."
"Yeah?"
"Can I be discharged tomorrow? My wounds are healing fast."
"Let's see how it goes tomorrow. What if it gets inflamed overnight?"
