"It’s nice to see you back in good shape, my lady," Aurelia said and something along the lines of her words hinted she wasn’t supposed to be alive.
Islinda stopped in her tracks and stared at the Fae with suspicion for a second. Had she known what Aldric was up to and kept mutt?
Aurelia stopped walking when she realized the human wasn’t following anymore and turned to her, concerned,
"Is everything alright, my lady?"
Of course, the fae was loyal to Aldric and would never reveal her master’s plans. How could she have assumed Aurelia would be on her side and spill Aldric’s secrets?
Even she couldn’t expose Aldric’s manipulations at the palace because he was good at countering everything and would always find a way out of a difficult situation.
At once, Islinda schooled her expression, not giving out any feelings as she answered, "Of course, I’m fine."
Islinda continued on the path, muttering under her breath, "I cannot wait for this to be done with already. Is the healer here, my hand is beginning to hurt like a bitch."
"She awaits already in your chambers," Aurelia revealed and Islinda did a double take.
She narrowed her eyes at the Fae, "That quickly?" Islinda could have sworn it was mere minutes ago Aldric mentioned a healer.
Aurelia gave a small smile of understanding as she went into details, saying, "Isaac passed on the information that you might be injured upon his hasty arrival and departure as well. We quickly called on the closest healer and here we are."
"Oh." It made much sense now.
They arrived at the entrance of her chambers and Aurelia stepped aside, gesturing for her to go in first. Islinda was not going to get used to this noble treatment but she was not protesting against it anymore.
The healer Fae was waiting for her just as Aurelia said and she took in her features. The healer was one of the average-height Fae she had seen since her arrival. And for a Fae who claimed to be a healer, she had a sickly pallor and green unruly hair that reminded her of wild grass.
"This is the healer?" Islinda subtly whispered to Aurelia by her side, trying not to make it obvious she was talking about the healer Fae.
"I’m sorry about that, but we worked on a tight schedule and were only able to get her. Usually, Prince Aldric handled it since none offered their services. Luckily, this one was in need of quick gold."
"Oh," Islinda said, flatly.
It was beginning to get annoying the way Aldric was ostracized from the Fae society. Yes, he was a lot to handle and a scumbag, but so far, it seems he was capable of being kind too. If he wants to. In fact, they had good reasons to be cautious, Islinda couldn’t blame them either.
Hence, she did not say much, deciding to be grateful for the help Aurelia got. She sat down on the edge of her bed and waited with dreadful anticipation for the healer to treat her. Islinda knew her hand was broken and expected a lot of pain.
"Give me something to chew on," Islinda demanded as soon as the healer stepped close, imagining the misery she would be in.
"Something to chew on?" Aurelia blinked in confusion until recognition set in, "Oh, you want a late-night snack."
Islinda sighed, then shook her hand, "No, I mean something for the pain. A wooden spoon would be well wedged between my teeth so I don’t bite down on my teeth."
