Eating dinner without a certain dark Fae prince should have been a dream come true, instead, Islinda found out that she somehow missed his presence. No! She was not going to give in so easily and admit that she wished Aldric was here so they can fight all they want yet have a memorable dinner.
Islinda stabbed her fork into the steak with much more force than was required, sulking as she was seated alone on the long, mahogany table. Her gaze fell on the two Fae servants standing at their appointed position while she dined. The grand dining room felt cold, lonely, and distant.
Rosalind was not here and Islinda was grateful for that because she couldn’t stand to see her right now. Not after their confrontation earlier. Although Rosalind said those words to spite her, Islinda knew deep down that she was right.
How many Faeries served her because they wanted to and not because they were obligated to do so by the dark prince? If Rosalind’s rage was fueled by her jealousy towards her, what about other Faeries working here that disliked her simply because she was human?
Initially, Islinda felt bad because she was being pampered and wanted to get to know the Fae servants better. They could become friends, you know and she would bridge the gap between them? She had naively thought.
But after the conflict with Rosalind, it became abundantly clear that such a relationship was impossible. Fae’s were a superior race and the fact they served a nobody like her must get on her nerves a lot. Perhaps, she should thank Rosalind for opening her eyes to the reality she was on her own here.
If Aldric were to take away his protection, who would stand by her? Even Aurelia who was kind to her, Islinda couldn’t tell if her intention was sincere or if she cared about her due to her undying loyalty to Aldric.
Islinda chewed languidly as the meat suddenly lost its flavor in her mouth; she had no appetite. She sighed deeply, putting down her cutlery. Islinda could not do this anymore and would rather retreat for the night. Not to mention, she had a certain book to go through. Hehe.
Her mood lifted a bit when she recalled her plans to read Morning Glory later tonight. Perhaps she was lucky, but when Islinda checked earlier, the book was not affected by Aldric’s wretched ability. He probably didn’t know she had stolen the book and hid it under her bed. Well, he wouldn’t have guessed she would be interested in that kind of book, a-hem!
"Don’t worry, you don’t need to follow me," She lifted her hand and gestured to Lizy, the Fae who wanted to escort her back to her room after she was done with dinner.
"I can find my way, and would also change into my nightwear all by myself as well. You are dismissed for the night" Islinda said, lifting her long skirt from sweeping the ground while she walked.
"But my lady... " The Fae trailed off, seemingly confused by the abrupt dismissal. This was not like her lady.
"Have a good night, Lizy," Islinda said firmly, turned, and took her leave.
Lizy did not follow after her but she spared the young Fae one last look and could tell she was confused by the sudden change in her attitude towards her. Islinda wondered why she was feeling guilty when she was supposedly doing the right thing.
Keeping the Faeries at arm’s length was the best thing to do in this situation. They wouldn’t have to pretend around her anymore and she would see them for who they are. Issac was right, this world was not welcoming toward humans.
As brave as Islinda appeared to be, she was still disappointed and sad about how things turned out to be and wasn’t even looking when she went into her room.
