Issac should have trusted his sister not to keep her mouth closed.
"Mother, Issac, and Anya kissed!" She announced as soon as the beautiful Fae came into view with the dishes in hand.
His mother did a double take, her mouth dropping open, "Wow, that is surprising," Her gaze instantly connected to his with a questioning look.
"Anya said she couldn’t help herself, so she kissed him. Can you imagine that? The both of them look so adorable together," Kayla continued gushing over them without reading the signal in the room..
She answered, "Yes, my dear, I’m trying to imagine that," His mother’s eyes were filled with suspicion and wariness even as they held Issac captive. The mother and child were so close that they learned to communicate with their eyes alone.
Anya must have noticed the silent communication between them because she intentionally interrupted them by saying, "I’ll help you with that, mother,"
His mother blinked and handed the dishes to her with a tight smile, "Sure."
Anya returned the smile, although hers was much brighter. Either she was naturally a cheerful Fae or just good at pretending, and no one noticed until now. Nonetheless, she left with the food, heading to the dining and Issac’s eyes followed her till she was out of sight.
Issac thought he was okay. He assumed the memories of that night would be erased from his mind. But the reverse was the case, he felt this great resentment in his heart and justice for what she had done to him. He needed to confront her for what she did to him. But another part of himself didn’t want to bring up a past Issue that could damage the relationship between both families.
However, seeing Anya with innocent smiles and behaving as if nothing happened - like she did nothing - seems to grate on his senses. He wanted her out of his house and possibly never see her again, but questions were sure to arise if he did that, so he buried the grievances inside of him - and endured it.
His mother gave him a long look that could only be interpreted as "we would talk later" before she followed after Anya. Issac expelled a long breath, running his hand through his hair, slightly startled when Kayla placed her hand on his shoulder and he glanced at her warily.
"I don’t know what’s going on between you and Anya but you sure don’t look like a Fae in love." She sighed, "If we are influencing your decision in one way or the other because of our family’s closeness, then don’t do it. There are many unmated females in Astaria. Not to mention..." Her lips curled into a smirk, "I love a bit of fresh air."
Issac’s jaw dropped, was his sister seriously giving him relationship advice? He should have made a comeback, instead, Issac burst into laughter. This has got to be the most hilarious thing he has experienced today. His baby sister was giving him love advice? Unbelievable.
"Fine, laugh all you want," She made a face at him, offended by his laughter.
Issac told her, "Don’t think you’re getting away from telling me about Calan just because you exhibited one percent of maturity."
Kayla threw her hands up, "Seriously, one percent? Give me a bit of credit, brother. I have been fine without your overwhelming cloud of protectiveness over the past months."
"In that case, tell me who Calan is, and let me be the judge of character."
She scoffed, "As if I trust your judgment."
"What?" Issac’s face twisted, "You’re as good as dead today,"
"Mother!" Kayla screamed for rescue as the both of them played a game of cat and mouse around the house. Issac’s sister was much smaller and light on her feet, hence was able to slip right through his fingers.
But before she could reach the dining room, he snatched her around the waist and lifted her off the ground. Kayla kicked the air furiously and struggled with him, screaming at the top of her lungs as if she was being tortured, "Mother, help me!"
What Issac felt next was a hit to the head and he dropped Kayla with a yelp, turning around with furious eyes to see who had done that, only to notice his mother with her raised slipper. By the gods, he has grown beyond being hit with a slipper, unfortunately, his mother had a different opinion.
