Chapter 256: The Idiot And The Foolish Prince

"You do know when you asked me to accompany you on a trip, I thought of a more exciting experience than this," Maxi whisper-yelled at Aldric who sat on the bare floor with his legs crossed and his eyes closed.

He looked peaceful, unlike his companion, the dark Fae horse shifter, who was seated beside him, looking aggravated and uncomfortable in the same pose.

"Are you even listening to me, Aldric?" She lifted her feet and began to jab him on his thigh, trying to get his attention, yet the winter prince remained undisturbed.

"Fine," Maxi greeted her teeth, hardened her resolve, and pulled back the sleeves of her oversized tunic she had stolen from a Fae on their way here. She then leaned towards Aldric with a mischievous grin and began to tickle him.

There was no reaction from Aldric and she increased the intensity of the tickle attack, determined to get a reaction out of him. For a moment there, Aldric’s brows furrowed and her malicious grin spread further across her face.

"Yes, let’s see how long you will take this?!" Maxi cackled like a witch, a shadow falling across her face and she looked very much the villain as she tickled him with more ferocity, determined to win in this unofficial contest.

To her disappointment, the furrow on Aldric’s face suddenly vanished as if it was smoothed over and he looked perfectly at ease. No, it was as if the dark Fae prince completely disconnected with his body and she was disturbing a mere vessel.

Maxi knew that it was possible. It was a feat that only the Faes with a high pain tolerance - or the most twisted mind - could perform. Pain can only affect one when it is felt. The point is to endure to the point where you don’t feel at all. You shut down and teleport your mind to a point beyond physical pain.

"No!" Maxi gave up, disgruntled. She was breathing hard, having exhausted herself in the process. It must have been hours - merely a while - since she began.

"Fine, let’s see then!"

With her anger having climbed up the scale, Maxi was without reasoning and pulled back her hand. She moved, intending to stab Aldric in the eye with her finger, but his eyes flickered open at the last minute, her forefinger just a hairsbreadth from puncturing his iris.

Aldric blinked, composed, "Don’t you understand the concept of meditation, Maximus?" He asked, unbothered that she had been close to rendering him blind. Although he would have healed from the assault.

"Meditation, my ass. It’s been three days! Three fucking days out here with you in the wild! All for what? Your self-gratification?! And it’s Maxi, not Maximus." She yelled at him furiously.

Aldric’s lips thinned, frowning, "I thought you were enjoying yourself? You have been free to roam around in your natural state and hunt prey, what’s the problem?" He looked genuinely confused.

Maxi shot up to her feet, glaring down at him, "What’s the problem is that I’m sick and tired of this...." She thought of the word for it, "Alone time with you?! What in the Fae are we even doing here?! You talk about roaming in my natural state which I’m practically stuck in all the time. What I want is to return to the land of the living, Aldric!"

"Oh," It dawned on him. "You want to go see Issac? So predictable." Aldric scoffed.

She hurled back, "Yes, I would return to society, except Issac wouldn’t be the one I would be returning to because he messed up and I’m done pampering him. At least I’m good at facing my problems, unlike you coward hiding away from Islinda at the moment." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
