_______________

Issac stayed true to his word and did not tell anyone about the incident. However, Islinda was nervous and skittish for the rest of the day, jumping at the smallest noise and expecting Aurelia to burst into the room, having solved the mystery behind the missing knife.

And then there was the other problem, the Ravens. They flew away earlier and Islinda did not doubt that they were going to tattletale on her to their master, Aldric.

Damn, those birds.

Now, what was Aldric going to do? Would the dark Fae prince be so furious when he returns that he puts her under house arrest. It was boring enough staying all alone in the castle, if Islinda were to be confined to her room, she would surely lose her mind.

Islinda and Issac spent almost the whole afternoon in each other’s presence and to be honest, their current relationship dynamics were a bit weird. She was used to quibbling with him, and Issac throwing back blunt retorts. This sudden truce between them was not entertaining. Who even waved the white flag first?

Islinda could have argued it was Issac who surrendered, but then, the Fae saved her and was keeping her secret. But at the same time, Issac too asked a favor from her. Oh yes, a favor she had no idea how to fulfill.

To be honest, Islinda did not know the full details of the soul swap incident aside from her own experience and the snippets she caught when Andre visited. But Issac told her everything and the thought that Valerie made him steal a lock of her hair made her stomach churn.

She unconsciously reached for her hair and felt it before protectively wrapping her arms around herself. Was she not safe in Aldric’s castle?

At first, Islinda was furious at Isaac, but the Fae had no choice and if she were in his position, she would have done the same. If there was anyone to direct her anger to, It should be Valerie. Sadly, there was no way she could meet and confront him. Unless of course, Aldric permitted it.

But the winter prince would never permit it. Aldric hardly trusted her. Why would he hand her to Valerie on a platter of gold unless of course he had an ulterior motive and it benefitted him? Islinda shook her head with a sigh, it felt like she was stuck in a game of tug of war with two unruly children. And she, unfortunately, was the prize.

Whoever thought a love triangle was romantic must be out of her mind and not in her shoes. Not that Aldric was interested in her romantically. He merely needed her for the throne and his sexual gratification. Aldric had so much darkness inside of him that he was not capable of loving.

In the end, Islinda agreed to help Issac even though she had this inkling it would not work out. For starters, there was no sign of Aldric. Even if the dark Fae prince were to return, she would have to strike a deal with him. What if the price was too much to pay? Her focus should be on escaping and not making more wretched deals with the damn Fae that might trap her in the realm further.

Islinda was once more in the large dining hall having her dinner alone. She had tried looking for Issac to invite him to dine with her, craving his companionship, but the servants reported they had not caught sight of him since night fell.

And as for Rosalind.
