Mated To The Cruel Prince novel Chapter 275

Chapter 275: Valerie Was Tricked

Valerie kept up with appearances during the day, but at night, he battled with the demons. He was currently drunk. But then, no amount of Fae wine could get him drunk enough to forget her, Islinda. She was once a precious memory, but now a nightmare comes to haunt him.

It was laughable considering he had everything and yet he was not happy. He wanted her. Islinda was the only one who could complete his happiness. He should have been careful. He had always known that Fae felt intensely, he did not understand until now.

What about Islinda? Did she miss him or was he the only miserable one here? How was she doing? Was Aldric maltreating her or was he poisoning her mind towards him? The thought of it made his blood run cold.

But he trusted Islinda not to believe a word that the trickster said. He did warn her after all. He would have to find out on the night of the ball. But even with the anticipation, Valerie’s stomach churned with anxiety. With each day drawing closer to the ball, he couldn’t breathe.

The thought of choosing a Faerie that wasn’t Islinda as a mate stifled him. It was suffocating. Moreover, he doubted Islinda’s safety. Surely, Aldric wasn’t dumb enough to bring her to the ball amid the Fae Queen’s command. It would be Islinda’s obituary. For once, Valerie wished Aldric would be stubborn enough to neglect the Queen’s order.

Andre was right, he had to give up on Islinda. The more he pursued her, the further he provoked his mother into harming Islinda. But it was easier said than done. How could he forget someone who consumed his waking thoughts? She was slowly driving him crazy.

"My prince, that’s enough!" Derek snapped, having no other choice but to snatch the wine bottle from the prince’s hand.

"Give it back!" Valerie barked, staggering to his feet.

"Give it back, you say?" Derek scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief, "Could you take a good look at yourself in the mirror?! I don’t even recognize you anymore. Get a grip of yourself, Prince Valerie! Gracious Fae, Is this how you plan to lead us? The Faeries of Astaria? By drowning your sorrows with Fae wine when things don’t work out? Is that it? At this rate, we might as well hand your crown prince position to Prince Aldric, at least he’s strong at heart." He remarked without thinking.

The drunken haze cleared from Valerie’s eyes as soon as he heard those words and his golden orbs flashed brighter with anger.

"What did you just say?" He asked with a dangerously low voice. His spine was straight with tension and a tick appeared in his jaw as the temperature in the room rose.

Beads of sweat coated Derek’s forehead, stiffening at the end when he realized what he had done. He licked his lips, trying to explain quickly, "I mean to say —"

Valerie did not wait to hear his excuse, a burst of flames erupted from his palm and shot at Derek who seemingly was prepared for the attack because he parried the assault, however, the intensity still pushed him back a little and the wine bottle fell from his hand and shattered to pieces. The noise echoed across the room and cut through the thick tension.

Valerie did not attack him the second time, both Fae stood facing each other, maintaining intense eye contact. While Valerie’s gaze was blazing with anger and hostility, Derek was cautious, his body wound tight with tension and ready to defend himself if the prince attacked again. Although there was a bit of guilt in his eyes realizing this happened because he ran his mouth.

For over a minute, Valerie stared him down until he announced all of a sudden, "Get out of my sight."

Derek did not argue or protest. No, he simply bowed his head and left without a word. The mess remained but the servants would take care of that in the morning, not when Valerie was obviously drunk and clearly on edge.

As soon as the door was shut, Valerie collapsed against his desk. What was going on with him? He had to stop being this way. But the wine took a bit of the aching pain away and made him feel numb until the morning came and reality hit him with double ferocity. But like a power-addicted Fae, he kept coming back for it.

How Valerie managed to locate his bed with the amount of Fae wine running through his veins was a miracle. He laid flat on his back, his legs and arms sprawled out. He mumbled nonsense while his eyelids drooped, Islinda’s name the only comprehensive word in his mouth.

Valerie fell asleep and woke up sometime at night when he felt a gentle hand caressing his face. His eyes fluttered open and nearly bulged out of its socket when he saw the figure hovering over him. The shock eased as his eyes softened, filled with warmth as he stared at her.

"If you are here, then this must be a dream," Valerie whispered, reaching out to feel Islinda only for his slightly dazed expression to narrow in confusion.

"I touch flesh, how is that possible?" He mumbled, now readjusting in his position to be able to cup her face with both of his hands tentatively, fascination in his eyes.

Islinda answered, "Does it matter how I’m here? All I know is that I had to find a way to meet you. I’ve missed you, Valerie, " She leaned into him, "I want to be with you, but I’m afraid we don’t have much time together."

Suspicion nudged at Valerie’s mind, after all, how is it possible that Islinda could track him down to his room? She was new to the Fae realm and had never been in here. However, it must be the Fae wine or something, it somehow muddled his thinking. His reflexes were dulled as well. All he wanted was to be with Islinda.

Before Valerie could break out of whatever enchantment this was, her lips closed over his and he forgot all about thinking. No, he did think, but it was about how much he missed Islinda and how nice it felt to be tasting her sweet lips right now.

He pressed her flush against him, his arms wrapping around her waist. He then deepened the kiss, tasting her while his hand roamed her body. However, it was while groping her that it hit Valerie that something was wrong. This body was different. He had been with Islinda long enough he could tell the feel of her skin, the curve of her body, the taste of her tongue, and finally, her scent.
