Chapter 291: The Couple Race

"Just let him be, huh? He’s simply not worth it." Islinda begged Eli frantically, tugging his sleeves and looking him in the eyes with a pitiful pout he couldn’t ignore. She was just so tired of the fights and violence. She was supposed to enjoy this date, not regret the horrible ending.

Eli blinked up at Islinda in surprise, this was the first time she was trying to act all cute around him and it tugged at his chest. If only he could kiss her, such a mean, little heartbreaker. Instead, he pressed his lips to her forehead and kissed her there for a full minute with his eyes closed.

When Eli opened his eyes, she stared into the blue of his eyes burning with a tenderness that could melt even the hardest of hearts and it was reserved only for her. Her heart swelled with joy, and a little bit of possessiveness, he was all hers. No one else. At Least for today.

"Let’s go then." Eli took her hand and was about to lead her away when she suddenly remembered and her eyes widened.

"Eli, wait!" She tugged his arm and he turned to her in surprise.

"What is it, princess? Don’t tell me, you’d actually changed your mind and want me to kill him? You know I’m always up for a little bit of fun." Eli cracked his knuckles with a wicked grin on his face and the Fae who thought he was actually free, felt his soul leave his body. He gave Islinda a pleading look, Save me, young miss!

"How do I say this?" Islinda scratched the back of her head, a bit nervous, unsure how he would react to her request.

"You know you can ask for anything, princess. Even the whole world and I would lay it on your feet for you." He told her and Islinda blushed scarlet red.

He was so sweet to her to the point that guilt began to gnaw at her chest knowing she would betray his trust tomorrow. However, she pushed the thought away, focusing on the present.

She pointed to the cage where the cat was contained, shyness in her voice as she requested, "Can you get me that, please?"

Eli’s gaze followed the direction of her hand, and a thrill went through Islinda knowing he would fulfill her wish as promised. However, when minutes went by and Eli had not said a word, she began to worry especially with the sudden scowl on his face.

"What’s wrong?" Islinda inquired, sensing his quietness was abnormal.

Eli told her, "Do you know what kind of cat that is?"

Islinda frowned, "No, I don’t. But is there something wrong with it?" She could already sense an ominous feeling in the air with that statement.

"When you said you felt a strange feeling, I now understand." He looked her deep in the eyes, explaining, "This is a Wrry Cat, when trained properly, they serve as spies, although doubt you’d utilize that ability as a human. However, aside from their noble beauty, they are notable for being possessive, lazy, loyal, and fierce. Most of all, they are enchanting creatures that would entice the strongest Fae and lure them into caring for them. As I said, they are lazy creatures. Trust me, you’d be better off without it. "

He added with a bit of seriousness this time, "Not to mention I don’t know who was its last owner and if the bond between them was properly broken. I wouldn’t risk bringing such risk back home. "

Islinda’s excitement faded at once and her face fell. She did not mind the lazy part, after all, she had nothing to do at the castle, and aside from spending time at the library and quibbling with Aldric, she was practically lonely half of the day. She would give the cat all of her attention and the castle had all the luxury it needed to be taken care of. Perhaps, this was for the best since she’s leaving anyway.

"The cat’s bond with its previous owner has been broken," The Fae who was the owner of the stall saw this as an opportunity to redeem himself and picked up at once, "I’m sure of it. We weaned it from the bond."

Eli intimated him with his glaring look, as if trying to make him cave under pressure and confess the truth.

"I’m sure of it. I’m your kind, sir, I cannot lie, remember?" He pleaded with Eli, a second away from peeing in his pants from fear. While the dark Fae prince might hide his dark powers, Fae’s were instinctive creatures and the stall owner could sense that he was dangerous somehow.

"Isn’t this amazing?" Islinda took his hand, distracting him, "Now we can get it!" She looked excited and he didn’t want to disappoint her.

He said to the Fae, "How much does the cat cost?"

But the Fae answered nervously, "We might have a little problem with that, the cat is kind of not for sale."

Islinda’s expression fell again and Eli’s ire rose.

The stall owner, seeing that his life was in danger, quickly pointed to a banner hanging over the stall and explained, "It’s not that I don’t want to sell it to you, I just can’t."

"The couple race?" Islinda read the title, slowly realizing what was going on. No wonder the crowd was persistent, they had signed up for the competition and couldn’t back out now.

The Fae offered, "You don’t need to sign up, as a form of apology, you can participate in the race without payment."

Sounds of protests came from the crowd but they were silenced instantly when Eli glared their way.

"I’ll be back," Islinda said to the Fae and then took Eli’s hand, pushing him to the corner.

"Let’s do this. It sounds exciting."

"No." Eli rejected it instantly.

"Why?!" Islinda groaned.

"Did you even read the stipulation? This is a no-holds-barred race. There is no disqualification, and the only rule is to win. Look around you, princess..." He referred to the Fae around them and her gaze followed his instructions, "These are my kind with more than just parlor tricks, they have real abilities and they wouldn’t hesitate to use them on you, nor can I come back for vengeance because what happens in the race, stays with the race. So princess, I’ll rather hunt another unbound Wrry cat for you, than risk you this way." He concluded, caressing her cheek. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

For a moment there, it seemed like he had gotten through to Islinda, but she shook her head," No, I don’t want another Wrry cat but this one. " The cat called to her for a reason.

"Islinda." Eli used her real name this time showing how serious he was.

But Islinda stood her ground, "No, I am not scared of your kind, I have my strength too and it’s high time someone showed that to them."

She stepped closer to him till their chest was touching and said, "I’ll make you a deal then. You can get a kiss if we participate in the race and win."

"What?" Eli was stunned, having not seen that coming.

Islinda got on her tiptoes and whispered into his ears, "Not just a peck on the lips but a full kiss on the mouth. You can steal my breath for five minutes with a lot of tongues and biting in between. No...." She took his hand and slid it over her bottom, "With a lot of groping too." Islinda bit his ear lobe before standing to her full height, waiting for his answer with anticipation.

Eli growled low in his throat, eyes flashing with desire. No way in hell was he missing this offer. Nor would this realm be safe if he dared lost and miss out on the kiss.
