Chapter 293: Heal Her

"Yes!" Islinda pumped her fist in the air, celebrating the breathtaking move Eli just flawlessly executed. He indeed caught it and was worthy to be called a high Fae!

"Go Eli!" She cheered him loudly, intending to motivate the dark Fae prince. Her face was flushed from the race and her breath was quick and shallow, but it was all worth it. She had put up a tough fight. However, that was where another problem came in.

Even with the baton in his hand, Eli stood at the spot and didn’t go after the other contender who was already making it to the finish line. The Fae had been the first to receive the baton and had a smooth run without interference from the other Faeries who were yet to receive their batons. But not anymore.

While Eli hesitated, two more others received their batons and took off while he stood at the spot, unmoving. Islinda threw her hands up in exasperation as she closed the distance between them.

"What in the Fae is wrong with you?!" She lashed out at him, "Is this because you don’t want me to have the Wrry cat? Really? You’re unbelievable. You should have told me that from the start and I wouldn’t have had to put in so much effort only to have it thrown in my face!" She didn’t want to believe Eli was doing this on purpose.

However, he ignored her ranting, snarling instead, "Who did that to you? Which of the Faeries?"

"Oh." Islinda finally understood the reason for his reluctance. He must have seen her horrible appearance and was concerned about her. But this was seriously not the time to act sweet and fiercely protective, not when the Wrry Cat was on the line and even the other contenders were close to the finishing line.

Moreover, why would she give him a name so he could go after the Faerie when it was obvious one of the rules of the game was that whatever happened in the race stayed in the race? In other words, they can’t fight because of this.

"I’m fine, Eli. But I swear to the maker, if you don’t make a move right now, you’ll have yourself to blame for whatever happens!" She warned through gritted teeth, her fists turning white from clenching them too much. If she could, she would be running that race right now.

Now even the other contenders that were previously falling behind, caught up with her, snickering at the drama between her and Eli and making jeering sounds. They must be twisted enough to believe that Eli was doing it on purpose to fail her because she was human. God knows she wanted so much to slap them in the face.

Eli noticed the embarrassing flush creeping up her face and how serious she took this race because he growled, "Fine!"

Then he took off.

However, Islinda did not share in the excitement anymore, disappointment obvious in her features. What could Eli do so differently now that the first Fae was almost at the finish line and he had fallen behind other racers as well? It was over. She might not be a quitter but also knew when to give up and acknowledge defeat at the hands of an opponent.

This was over. Or so she thought.
