Miss human?
Islinda had to stifle the laughter that threatened to erupt from her lips. The Fae was hilarious, however, it hit Islinda that he indeed did not know her name. After the altercation with Aldric, the Fae automatically added them to the race without needing to sign up for the event.
She did not take offense and smiled at him, saying politely, "You should call me Isl..." Islinda trailed off at once realizing her name might be a quick giveaway of Aldric’s identity.
While the Fae might not identify her, surely they must have heard of the mortal who saved Prince Valerie in the human realm and was under the captivity of the wicked dark Fae prince Aldric.
Although she might be as important or famous as she thought she was, Islinda considered that. However, she wasn’t taking any chances. The spring court Fae who hit her during the race and who knew of Prince Aldric’s identity already departed without saying a word. Her dearest date, Eli made sure of it.
"Isla. That is my name." Islinda lied, noticing the way Eli arched a brow at her. Although it was technically not a lie, the identity Aldric gave her when they visited the palace for the first time. She only modified it a bit and decided it would be her nickname from henceforth.
"Nice name, Princess Isla," Aldric pointed at wittingly.
Islinda nudged him playfully, yet it was a signal for him to behave. After all, she was doing this for him.
"Alright, Isla –"
"Princess Isla." Aldric interrupted the stall owner, demanding he add that title.
"Ahem," Islinda intentionally cleared her throat, cautioning Eli by stomping on his feet.
Eli turned to her, unaffected by the pain, "Did I say something wrong? My date needs to be treated with utmost respect –"
"Hello dear, can I have my prize now?" Islinda tactically interrupted him, giggling aloud on purpose to camouflage the awkwardness. She was seriously not in the mood to deal with Eli’s overbearing attitude.
She reached for the cat but the stall owner was hesitant to hand it over, "Wrry Cats, especially one whose bond from the previous owner has been severed, tend to be aggressive towards their new owners and it might take time to build a bond with –"
The Fae was still in the middle of an explanation when the cat broke free from his hold and leaped at Islinda without warning, startling her. Eli jumped to the defense but Islinda put up an arm to stop him.
"No, don’t...." She told him, readjusting the weight on her arm and showing them how comfortably the cat snuggled into her embrace, "Isn’t he so cute?"
Eli relaxed but didn’t lower his guard, still cautious of the seemingly innocent creature while the stall owner looked at Islinda as if she had two heads.
"How is this possible?!" The stall owner exclaimed, "This has never been done. Usually, the cat goes on the aggressive and the new owner would have to restrain it, then gradually forms a bond with it." He looked at Islinda with a newfound respect in his eyes, "You must be blessed by the gods, Princess Isla. You are one lucky human."
"Or maybe he simply chose me? Wait a minute, is it a he? I hope I’m not mistaken and have been calling it the wrong gender all this while?" Islinda was completely smitten with her new cat.
"You’re right, Princess Isla, it’s a he." The stall owner affirmed and her face brightened like the sun.
"I’m right!" She pulled the cat to her chest, hugging it with so much adoration in his eyes.
"Now, all that’s left is bonding with the cat. Wrry cats are good spies but I doubt you would be able to utilize that feature since you’re human."
