"I think this is it." Islinda breathed as soon as they arrived at her doorstep. They were finally back at the castle and for the first time, it was not stifling.
"This is the point we say goodbye, princess." Eli said, a glint in his eyes.
He stepped towards her and Islinda’s heart began to race in anticipation. He was about to kiss her! He was going to kiss her! She unconsciously swallowed down saliva.
Eli leaned down so his breath tickled her cheek and his hand cradled her face, tilting her head as he searched her eyes, seeking permission. He must have gotten the consent he needed, their faces so close now they exchanged breath. Eli’s lips barely brushed across hers when he jerked away with a curse, glaring down at her cat.
That was when Islinda realized that Prince Wayne scratched him – not that Eli knew she still attached the prince title in the end.
"I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize he would do that. We must have startled him with the sudden closeness, although that doesn’t mean he had the right to hurt you. I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again." Islinda apologized profusely.
Yes, she would make sure the next time they kissed, the cat wasn’t sandwiched between them. Islinda couldn’t blame the cat for reacting that way. She would have done the same way if two adults were about to suck faces right in front of her.
Eli scowled at the cat, "Are you planning on letting that damned thing sleep in your room? Do not think of it. I’ll have the servants set up a place for it."
Islinda’s brows furrowed, "Tonight?"
"Immediately," Eli stated, "I don’t know much about these damned creatures but I know enough that it’s all or nothing for them. They are quick to claim territory, so your room should never be an option to them."
Islinda didn’t know any of this and the excessive information was making her head reel. She rubbed her forehead with her free hand, stressed out, "Still, don’t you think it is a bit too much to make your workers build a pet house tonight?"
She had hoped Eli would empathize with her reasoning, but it shouldn’t have surprised her when he answered callously, "What is too much? I pay them for their hard work and they should be able to deliver efficient services."
Islinda’s mouth opened and closed helplessly. How would she explain empathy to someone who doesn’t understand it, especially when it doesn’t involve her?
However, she did not give up and pressed on, attempting to convince him, "Please Eli, it’s just tonight. Do remember that I have to bond with Wayne as well."
"It’s the bonding part that I’m concerned about." He retorted dryly, his eyes piercing through her.
Damn, this Fae and his jealousy. Not that he would admit it.
"Aw, come on! Please?" Islinda pouted her lips, giving him her best puppy face.
Eli’s mouth twitched as he fought back the laughter. She looked quite hilarious. His princess was quite tenacious, he couldn’t deny her anymore.
"Fine. Do whatever you want." He grudgingly gave in
