Islinda was unable to sleep, turning and tossing on the bed all night. The thought of tomorrow approaching both thrilled and scared her, filling her with anxious anticipation. Perhaps because she was unsettled, Prince Wayne could not sleep either. He would rub himself against her from time to time as if trying to calm her nerves, but it did little to help.
Tomorrow would determine her future. If she succeeded, her freedom was guaranteed and she could live a fulfilled life. But if she failed, Aldric would never forgive her and she was as good as dead. She would have betrayed Eli, the part of him that had trusted and would she dare to say, fall in love with her?
No, Islinda shook the ridiculous thought from her head. He was merely attracted, not in love with her. In the worst-case scenario, he might be obsessed with her. Not that she would care anymore when she escapes and tastes the air of freedom. Yet, what was this feeling of melancholy that took over when she thought about leaving him? No, she would get over it.
Suddenly, Islinda bolted upright. Fuck! The promise she made Issac. She had forgotten that Issac begged her to speak to Aldric on his behalf. But then, Aldric was not around ... which made it all the more better. Eli was easy to deal with and would give in to her demands without hassle.
Unfortunately, it was late and it seemed highly inappropriate to bother the dark Fae prince at this time. However, Islinda couldn’t sleep and thought it better to get this over with already. She would just have to be extra careful. To prove she had no ulterior motive behind her visit, Islinda donned a robe over her skimpy night dress. This way she wouldn’t give Eli the green light, nor would he misinterpret her move.
One could say this was Islinda’s way of reinforcing her self-control. All she would do is negotiate Issac getting into his, well, Aldric’s good grace and she would be done. She drew a long deep breath and Islinda opened her closed eyes, her mind made up.
She patted Prince Wayne on the head, "Alright, your noble highness, you have the room all to yourself. Although, I’ll be back before you know it."
Islinda barely took one step when the cat mewled in protest, leaping from the bed, and gracefully walked on its furry paws with a fast gait. He curled his body around her feet and Islinda sighed.
She bent and picked up the cat, dropping him on the bed and this time advancing towards the door, saying over her shoulder, "I’ll be back soon." Islinda quickly shut the door before he followed after her.
Perhaps, Eli was right and she was way over her head by getting a cat. What if she’s unable to take proper care of it? Would she even be able to give it a comfortable life while on the run from Aldric?
With those thoughts running amok in her head, Islinda walked over to his quarters and raised her hand to knock only for the door to fling open and reveal Eli standing in the doorway as if he had been waiting for her all this while.
Islinda was surprised, but that was the least of it because what shocked her the most was that Eli was naked. Well, to be precise, half-naked. The only thing he wore on his body was his underpants which left little to the imagination.
The undergarment was white –her favorite color– and was so tight that the fabric highlighted him and by the gods, he was quite huge. His packaging was the biggest she had ever seen, not that she had seen much. What in the world was she thinking? She covered her face out of shame, mentally.
Islinda lifted her face only for her eyes to connect with Eli’s knowing ones. He smirked, "Like what you see, princess?"
Islinda went red in the face and she quickly turned around, her poor heart pounding like the grooves of a horse against her ribcage.
She stammered, "Y--You should be decent." Islinda chided him, indirectly blaming him for getting her flustered.
"Decent?" Eli scoffed, "This is my version of decency, princess. It’s past my bedtime already and as I told you previously, I’m a naturist and prefer sleeping naked. We were born naked, so why should I bother with the hassles of clothing? Moreover, clothes are restrictive and tight. They heat me at night and perhaps because I’m part winter Fae, I can’t sleep while it’s hot. So forgive my inappropriateness, princess. Now tell me why you are here." He opened the door wider to let her in.
Islinda walked in while nervously biting down on her lips. She was beginning to think coming here was a bad idea. But there was no going back now. She just had to be in control of her raging hormones and all would be fine.
She turned to face him, her hands clasped in front of her and started, "I have something important to discuss with you and it’s about Issac."
All the while Islinda spoke, she made sure her eyes didn’t wander downwards, however, the sight of his bare chest with the golden, runic tattoos was enrapturing and distracting at the same time.
She drew her gaze away, focusing on his eyes instead. His beautiful eyes. Damn, this was not easy at all.
"I want you to forgive Issac. He didn’t really have a choice in what happened and I came out unharmed, didn’t I? I think you’ve punished him enough already."
Eli didn’t answer, his brows drawing together as his gaze ran over her from head to foot, causing her skin to pickle under his intense scrutiny. She felt naked even with the robe she wore on top of her nightgown. Eli had a way of making one feel self-conscious without trying hard. She felt for the robe and ensured it was tied properly.
He closed the space between them and lifted her chin, his fingers icy cold against her heated cheeks.
"I would love to help, princess. Unfortunately, Aldric is in charge of that matter and I wouldn’t want to disrupt our dynamics by overstepping my boundaries." He said to Islinda’s disappointment.
"You already overstepped your boundaries by locking Aldric out for a day," She reminded him, unwilling to give up.
"Because he deserves it, the same way Issac is deserving of his punishment, His eyes darkened," He threatened your life, he should be lucky Aldric got to him first and not me. " His face suddenly brightened," There is a way though ...." He trailed off, leaving her in suspense on purpose.
Islinda inched closer, curious, "There is?"
"Do you want to strike a deal with me, Princess?"
No!
