Islinda’s nervousness grew as she looked down the hall, her emotions in turmoil. Forged by war and hardened by their societal standards, the Fae understood only violence, war, and bloodlust. Her senses were able to register the building bloodthirstiness, their eyes glowing with the wildness.
No wonder the servants wouldn’t talk to her, she and Rosalind had been in cahoots even though the Fae betrayed her in the end. They must hold her responsible for what happened.
Islinda turned to Maxi, "They want her dead."
"Mmm," Maxi hummed nonchalantly and that only made Islinda’s blood boil.
"They will come for me next. The ones who brought me here have been cold towards me... " Islinda laughed bitterly, "Perhaps, this is for the best anyway, I would die in their hands and this will finally be over."
"Don’t worry, silly, you won’t be dying anytime soon."
Islinda’s countenance changed with both confusion and agitation. She hated when people dropped half the information.
Maxi sensing her frustration, said to her, "Only Aldric and I know that you drugged his food and stole the medallion to escape the Fae realm. The Fae believe that this is all Rosalind’s doing. However, they are furious over your weakness and believe that Aurelia wouldn’t be in that critical state had you fought back. "
Islinda snarled," Rosalind drugged me. Why don’t they try to be in my state and see if you fight while being unconscious? "
"Don’t claim the victim here, Islinda, you brought all of this on yourself. To think I believed you were smart," Maxi shook her head in disapproval, looking ahead.
Islinda’s hands balled into fists on her lap, burning with so much anger.
"What did I do so wrong?" Islinda croaked, her voice shaky with, "All I wanted to do was to escape him. I wanted out of here."
"Of course, you did nothing wrong, my dear, unfortunately, you’ve just roused the deadly side of Aldric. No offense but I hope you enjoy the show," Maxi said with sarcasm, although her expression softened at the end.
Islinda was stuck in limbo, her mouth opening and closing without a word spoken. Aldric’s voice echoed across the hall at that moment, drawing everyone’s attention.
"Thank you Faeries...." He looked towards her, "And human for honoring my invitation."
Islinda snorted. As if he had given her any choice. The servants practically dragged her over here after his order. Damned bastard.
"We have gathered here for an important show. Last night was an experience none of us would be able to forget in a hurry and to think that one of our own betrayed me. Us." He said with a mock gasp.
There was murmuring across the hall and Islinda fought the urge to roll her eyes because Aldric had a flair for the dramatic and grand. He didn’t even have to try hard, he compelled the Fae audience with his acting.
