"How is her condition?" Aldric stared down at Aurelia’s unconscious body on the infirmary bed. The Fae was half naked with her chest and below her waist covered with lightweight and breathable fabric for comfort. Her stomach was bare, revealing the side where she was stabbed which was covered with a soothing medicinal paste.

The texture of the paste was cool and smooth, gently adhering to the contours of the wound. The ground herb was applied in such a way that it created a protective barrier over the injured area, offering relief and promoting the healing process.

The wound once raw and exposed now exhibited signs of gradual healing. Iron was dangerous to Fae creatures and it had poisoned Aurelia long enough she wouldn’t have survived had she been human. No, even most Fae would have succumbed to the injury. Aurelia was a strong Fae and was determined to live.

"I believe she will survive this time, she’s way past the critical stage, my prince." Zaya the healer answered, coming to stare at Aurelia as well. The tranquil expression on Aurelia’s face hinted she lay serenely at rest, a subtle rise and fall of her chest.

"Good. The household is in chaos already and I don’t think I will find her replacement easily, not with Rosalind gone as well," Aldric smiled sardonically, "To think disaster doesn’t wait to happen one at a time but hit me all at once."

Zaya looked at the crown prince with sympathy. She had not been there when the incident happened but she felt for the prince who had to deal with all of it. Any prejudice the healer Fae had against Aldric vanished the instant she started working for him.

Aldric was not what the Faeries made him out to be. He was a much better fae than many other Faeries out there. He gave her a chance when everyone else wrote her off. For that act alone, Zara secretly swore loyalty to the dark Fae prince.

"I’ll try my best to get her back on her feet in a few days, Your Highness," Zaya promised him.

"Fine, I expect nothing less than that," Aldric said strictly and turned to her, like truly noticing her since he entered the infirmary. He inquired, "How’s the training going? Has your healing ability increased by even half a notch?"

Of course, hearing that, Zaya’s expression lit up, "Prince Aldric. Although I didn’t notice any notable changes at first, my form has strengthened and I don’t lose too much energy easily during a healing session and sweat like an animal up for sacrifice. I believe with more practice of the technique you wrote down, my healing ability would increase. "

"Good. At least, you are a serious student," Aldric felt a bit embarrassed by her intense look of admiration and looked away, blushing slightly. He was much used to the disgusting and alarmed looks the Faeries gave whenever they recognized him. This one was new and felt oddly satisfying — as if he was proud of doing a good thing.

At once, Aldric frowned. He was not a good Fae. He was the villain of the stories most mothers tell their younglings to scare them to bed. Nor did he want to be a good Fae. Good Fae dies easily. The bad ones get what they want. He chose the latter.

He easily slipped on the mask of indifference he was used to and walked out of the infirmary without a word. As soon as Aldric was out the door, a Fae guard he had noticed for the second time today — since he was employed by the gods knows which of his family members sent him to spy on him — caught up to him.

"Y—your highness," The Fae stammered, a bit fearful. This was the first time he was speaking with the dark Fae prince one-on-one since he was sent to work at this castle. Precisely, it was the second time today since the first time the prince ordered him —without even looking at his face — to round up all the Fae and give him the total number of everyone present at the castle and of which he was about to report his fingers. The Fae was nervous as hell.

"Oh, you." Aldric’s annoyed face flickered with recognition.

"I have the report you asked for, Prince Aldric." The Fae tried his best to hide the nervousness but his hand still shook when he handed the paper to him and Aldric received it from him with a bit of a scorn. He hated weak soldiers.

Someone had intruded into his castle and started a storm which was only a distraction to get to Rosalind — although he predicted that and shouldn’t have failed in capturing the perpetrator. Even if it were outside work, someone must have helped him from the inside. A Fae’s enemy must be a member of his household.

The Fae continued while Aldric went through the list, "All Fae are accounted for except for Issac and his fiancée who left under everyone’s view this afternoon with no idea about their destination."
