"Dinner is served,"
Issac and Maxi were seated at the dining table when Kayla served the food.
Maxi leaned forward and inhaled the tantalizing aroma with her eyes closed before opening them to exclaim, "This smells so good!" She added, looking at Isaac pointedly," And I bet it tastes good as well."
At once, Issac choked on his saliva, a red flush starting in his neck, and worked upward.
"Are you okay, my love?" Maxi feigned ignorance, reaching for the cup of water as Issac coughed hard, batting at his face as tears stung his eyes.
Issac could not utter a word, reaching for the cup instead and downing the water, feeling better afterward.
"What’s wrong?" Oma came out of the kitchen to check what was happening.
"Oh, it’s nothing to worry about, Oma. His saliva went down the wrong passage, isn’t that right, my love?" Maxi took up the role of an attentive lover as she rubbed his back. While the glint in his eyes was hidden from the others and she could easily deceive his family, Issac saw through her act.
He stared in disbelief at Maxi’s skilled acting. The dark Fae horse shifter knew what she had done and yet kept a straight face. No one saw the secret exchange between them and Maxi was all smug. The victory was hers.
"You should be careful Issac, just because you now have a beautiful fiancée doesn’t mean you should fall head over heels completely to the point you can’t swallow properly," Oma playfully chided him.
"It’s not that... " Issac wanted to explain but what could he say to his mother? While she and Kayla had been busy in the kitchen, he and Maxi had been "busy" upstairs.
It was a miracle that they had not been discovered considering he mistakenly let out some grunts and moans notwithstanding Maxi’s warning for him not to make a sound. What had she been expecting anyway when she had him in such a tight and pleasurable situation? Maxi was a minx and she kept on corrupting him.
He should refuse her each time she went past her limit but what was the fun of life if he didn’t take some great risks? It would have been embarrassing if his mother walked in on them, but she didn’t and Issac had a good time. Although he wouldn’t be taking the risk again — without a bit of convincing from Maxi.
Issac was weak whenever it came to the horse shifter and he couldn’t help it. There was just this intense pull between them that it seemed like ages ago when he hated her guts and the fact she was a dark Fae disgusted him. Yes, he had been blind and dumb at that time. Kayla was right, he was a stickler for rules.
"... You know what? Forget about it." Issac rested his case. There was simply no use. His mother should just think of him as a lovey-dovey Fae rather than coming across the information Maxi was teasing him with what they had secretly done in his bedroom.
"Now we eat. I’m so famished working this hard in the kitchen," Kayla eased into her seat, at the same reaching for the steaming rolls in front of her before everyone else only for her mother to smack her on the hand with her spoon, a reprimanding look on her face.
"By the gods, that hurts!" Kayla glared at her mother, clutching her throbbing hand to her chest.
Oma retorted, "The gods are whom I’ll be sacrificing you to if you eat before your elders and without a prayer."
Maxi stared at the drama with both awe and amusement. This was a small, modest, and traditional family, and wondered how in the Fae she would survive in it. No wonder Issac was so stringent.
Maxi was not exactly the type to adhere to rules. Horse shifters were naturally headstrong. Thank the gods - that wouldn’t accept Kayla as a sacrifice — Issac’s sister was on her side. She had support in the family.
