In a particular room within the palace, a portal suddenly opened, causing a body to come hurtling through the wormhole. Elena crashed onto the ground with a loud thud as the portal swiftly closed. For a few moments, she lay still, so motionless that one might assume she was dead, and for valid reasons. Her clothing was dark, making it difficult to see the blood stains, but she was gravely wounded.
However, being a Fae, Elena could not die from the death blow that Islinda had inflicted by cutting her tendon during their brutal fight. She lay there, slowly recovering, and once all her wounds had healed, she finally rose to her feet.
With a soft grunt, Elena ripped the mask from her face, causing the magical trick she had applied to her eyes to revert from blue back to their original golden color. And yes, this Elena from the Raysin family was the assassin who had successfully attempted to murder Islinda.
During the chaos caused by Aldric, while everyone had been distracted, Elena had kept a close eye on Islinda and had witnessed Andre leading her away. She knew then that Andre had taken Islinda while everyone else was searching for her. Elena patiently waited for her opportunity to strike.
Elena began to undress, removing her blood-stained attire until she stood completely naked. She walked over to the mirror, admiring her body before a sinister smile graced her features. She had made a wise choice by inhabiting this body, thought Lola, the witch.
This time, Lola controlled Elena’s body. Unlike humans, Fae bodies were strong and capable of magic; a human body would not have lasted long. The dangerous and forbidden ritual that Lola had performed to possess this body had resulted in her own body being left nearly lifeless somewhere, and she had almost depleted her entire lifespan. Lola’s body had aged significantly, and if, by chance, she were to be expelled from this body, she would likely only have mere minutes to live.
But it was all worth it. Lola had made up her mind to sacrifice everything as long as her revenge succeeded. Even if she died, she would meet Dorcas with a proud face, knowing she had not failed her. Although the real Elena was vaguely aware of being manipulated, there was nothing she could do about it. Lola controlled her. Well, not completely. Elena’s feelings for Aldric were genuine, and Lola took advantage of them. Fate had favored her by providing the perfect victim. Lola wanted to ensure that Aldric felt real pain, and she had accomplished the first step by killing Islinda.
Lola had never expected that someone as twisted as Aldric could experience love, but she had witnessed the possessiveness with which he stared at Islinda. It was as if he couldn’t bear to let her out of his sight for even a second. Lola realized then that Islinda held great importance to Aldric.
And not just her, Elena sensed it as well. No wonder she disliked Islinda. Jealousy coursed through Elena’s veins, and Lola recognized this as a perfect opportunity. Their goals were aligned for once. After all, Elena was a powerful Fae and, despite her resistance, fueled by her magic-infused jealousy, she was easily convinced to join forces.
Although it was Elena standing there, the face reflected in the mirror belonged to Lola. If anyone were to walk in at that moment, they would realize that Elena was being possessed. This was the only flaw in Lola’s plan. Mirrors served as gateways to other dimensions and apparently to the soul as well. Consequently, Lola avoided mirrors at all costs.
"You did well today," Lola said to Elena through the mirror. Yes, it served as a means of communication between them. The mirror had its disadvantages and advantages.
