Chapter 572: Unexpected Appearance

"Hello, Islinda," Maxi greeted cheerfully, waving despite her predicament. "Nice of you to finally pay us a visit. Although I hate to break it to you, now is not a good time." She laughed.

"What in the Fae?" Islinda did not know when the words left her mouth, Staring at the scene, baffled. She whipped towards him, eyes wide and accusing, "Seriously?"

But either Aldric cared not one bit or he was the biggest actor she had ever seen. He did not flinch nor was there an atom of remorse on his expression. If anything he had a deep scowl, pissed that she had ruined his plans for the "two traitors" — as he liked to call them.

Shaking her head in disappointment, Islinda realized that it was not worth it picking a fights with him. She had to get to Maxi and Issac’s rescue. And that she did. Except Islinda realized at the end she didn’t have the means to release.

She turned to the dark Fae, no, winter prince now, with a glower. "Give me the keys, Aldric."

Aldric stared at her in defiance, "We might have a deal, but you do not tell me what to —"

"Keys now!" Islinda said, her voice reverberating with so much authority it shut Aldric up and silence reigned in the cell.

For a moment there, Aldric did not move, staring at Islinda with his mouth agape as if he couldn’t believe what just happened. His eyes suddenly narrowed and hardened, and when it looked like he was about to threaten her, instead Aldric released a string of colorful words from his words. He stomped over to Islinda and handed the key in her hand, sulking dramatically like a child denied his pleasures and was throwing a tantrum.

Maxi and Issac stared at each other, their expression horrified. What in the fucking Fae did they just watch? Their gaze remained on each other, a silent communication passing between them. They were unable to wrap their head over what they’ve just seen. However when their gaze broke away, a cunning smile curled Maxi’s lips. It seems it was already beginning, she mused inwardly.

"I am so sorry," Islinda apologized to Maxi while working on opening the locks. "It’s all my fault. If you haven’t attempted to help me escape, then this wouldn’t have happened. But if it pleases you to know...." She lifted her face, "Then you should know I had a good time outside." Islinda smiled at her, the last lock opening with a click.

Maxi sucked in a deep long breath, relishing the sweet taste of freedom. All this while, the shackles were draining her strength, after all, it’s role was to limit her power and ensure she doesn’t escape. Maxi had to give it up to Aldric, he had been shackled in it as well yet was able to escape.

"Good." Maxi said, cracking her fist with a strange glint in her eyes, not that Islinda took notice of it because she was helping to free Issac this time.

When Maxi was sure that Issac would be freed, she continued. "Because you should know that it was never your fault, but this bastard’s!"

Maxi charged at Aldric and Islinda saw it a second too late as she attacked her once best friend.

Aldric saw the attack coming and made no attempt to deflect or defend himself so the punch caught him right on the face, splitting his lips.

"How dare you lay a hand on my mate!" Maxi raged, her eyes flashing, barely restraining herself from throwing another punch. But even while blinded with bloodlust, she knew not to cross the limit.

"Mate?" Islinda muttered the word while freeing Issac. What was Maxi talking about? Not to mention, it seemed pretty important enough to attack Aldric.

The chains fell and Isaac was freed, standing to his full height and rubbing at his wrist which was glaring red. But he was not bothered by it knowing he would heal from it. He was more concerned about his mate Maxi and hoped she doesn’t provoke enough to land jail time again. He trusted she was smart to avert the situation.

Aldric eyes flashed from the punch he deemed a humiliation. He growled at her, "Well, you have hit me, now we are even."
