Chapter 886: The Magic They Created Together

The battlefield was a chaotic blur, but now that Azula and Aldric had set aside their differences and decided to work together, the tide was shifting dramatically.

Azula, in control of Islinda’s body, moved with a reckless abandon that stole Aldric’s breath. Islinda had been a quick learner, always adapting and standing her ground in fights, however, she was untrained. But

Azula was something else entirely, a beast, a monster.

She manifested dark shadows with a mastery Aldric had never imagined possible, using her powers in ways that left him in awe. Her strength was overwhelming, her knowledge deep, and her movements intentionally.

Still, despite Azula’s overwhelming power, Aldric couldn’t shake the anxiety gripping him. He stayed close, watching her back while fending off his own opponents. If anything were to happen to Azula while she inhabited Islinda’s body, it would be catastrophic. Islinda’s protection was usually in Azula’s hands, but now with Azula in control, Islinda and the child in her womb were vulnerable.

This vulnerability gnawed at him, especially when Azula’s reckless nature took over.

The moment came suddenly, without warning. Azula leaped high into the air, and before Aldric could stop her, she landed in the middle of enemy ground. It was a bold and terrifying move. Aldric’s heart stopped for a second as he watched her drop into the very center of the enemy’s forces, where the monsters were thickest, their weapons poised to strike.

"Azula!" Aldric shouted, terror in his voice.

Was she insane? What was she thinking? Fear gripped him, a cold vice squeezing his chest as he imagined the worst. Had Azula become suicidal, recklessly throwing herself into a situation where she could be overwhelmed and killed? If she died, so did Islinda, and their child.

Aldric began to move toward her, but an ogre blindsided him, knocking him off balance and forcing him into combat. He barely managed to roll out of the way as the creature’s massive weapon crashed into the ground where he had been standing moments before. The force of the blow left the earth trembling.

Gritting his teeth, Aldric engaged the ogre in battle, swinging his own sword and casting dark shadows to defend himself. He couldn’t reach Azula, not now. She was on her own. All he could do was pray that she knew the heck what she was doing.

Azula in question was surrounded now, the monsters closing in on her with a vicious gleam in their eyes, thinking she was an easy kill.

But Azula crouched, a twisted smirk on her lips as they came for her. The massive creatures roared, brandishing heavy clubs and blades, eager to crush her. But before they could strike, Azula conjured a barrier of shadows around herself. The monsters slammed their weapons into the barrier, trying to break through, but the dark magic held strong. Still, they pounded relentlessly, and Azula knew she couldn’t hold the barrier forever.

Instead of panicking, she closed her eyes and concentrated. When they opened again, her irises were completely black, filled with the demonic power she wielded. She began to move her fingers in slow, deliberate circles, as if shaping something out of thin air.

At first, nothing seemed to happen, but then a small cyclone, made of pure shadow, began to form outside the barrier. It grew quickly, swirling and expanding, drawing the attention of the monsters around her. The cyclone grew into a full-blown tornado, picking up speed and strength, and soon it began to pull the monsters into its grasp.

The realization hit them too late. They had thought they were the predators, closing in on a cornered prey, but now it was clear that they had fallen into Azula’s trap. The tornado of shadows consumed them, lifting them into the air and hurling them about like leaves in a storm, their screams lost in the howling winds.

Unfortunately, the tornado did not discriminate between friend and foe. The powerful winds threatened to pull in anyone within range, including the Fae soldiers fighting to hold their ground.

Aldric saw the danger immediately and shouted to the troops. "Fall back! Fall back! Get inside the barrier!"

Panic spread through the ranks as Fae soldiers scrambled to get away from the growing tornado. The witches guarding the barrier saw the chaos and realized they had to act quickly. Already exhausted, they pushed themselves even harder, expanding the barrier to allow more of their people inside.

The dark wind was picking up debris, stones, weapons—anything it could tear from the ground—and hurling them across the battlefield. Projectiles spun through the air, threatening anyone too slow to reach the protection of the barrier.

"Come on! Move it!" Aldric, Andre and Theodore urged their people on, their voices ringing out over the howling winds. It was a race against time.
