Chapter 92: The Day She Falls For Aldric

By the gods, it was a palace....

Islinda stared at the scene open-mouthed after she stepped out of the carriage. Aldric told her they were going to some party and while she had assumed it would be a noble Fae’s home, the palace hadn’t come close to her mind.

The palace was located in a wooded area, giving it a mystical feel. Islinda noticed all the Fae loved nature, hence it wasn’t surprising the forest stretched for miles and she would get lost if she wandered without her unfortunate company, Aldric.

However, it didn’t mean the building was primitive, because the palace was made with sparkling jewels, marble, and gold. The architecture was ornate and intricate, with pointed arches, high ceilings, and stained-glass windows. It looked like something out of a fantasy storybook.

"Beautiful, isn’t it?" Aldric appeared by her side, startling her.

With a hand on her chest, Islinda glared at him before closing her mouth. She tried to compose herself, trying hard not to reveal that she was a village pumpkin. You can take a human out of a village, but you can’t take the village out of her. Islinda began to fear that she would make a fool out of herself, this was her first upscale party after all.

Other carriages arrived in the palace as well, several Fae’s stepping out in a merry mood. Islinda had been worried she was overdressed for this party, but when she saw the exquisitely dressed female Faeries in attendance, the competitive spirit in her was stirred. She had to smooth her hand down her skirt and checked her appearance once more.

"Don’t worry, you’re the fairest today," Aldric said and she gave him the look, wondering if he was being serious or teasing her again. But of course, he was grinning and she couldn’t read his mind, not that she needed his validation in the first place.

Just like every Fae in attendance, they went through the large courtyard which featured an enchanted beautiful Fae statue fountain. There was a little queue and when Islinda lifted herself on her tiptoe to see what was the cause of the holdup, she found out that the guards at the entrance of the grand hall were checking invitations.

Islinda was so busy taking in the new surroundings with a childlike fascination that she didn’t notice no other Faeries stood after them in the queue and maintained a reasonable distance far far away.

In no time, it was their turn and Islinda saw that both guards stiffened, then straightened up at their appearance, tension thick in the air.

At first, Islinda thought they saw through her glamor and recognized she was a fraud and human, and was already preparing an explanation, only to hear,

"Prince Aldric, what are you doing here?"

Islinda did a double-take when she heard that title. Huh? Prince Aldric? Who was Prince Aldric? Perhaps, the guards were mistaken because the only Aldric she knew was standing....

She stepped away from the dark prince as if his presence physically hurt her. Islinda stared up at him with wide eyes and he turned to her with a sheepish grin.

"Finally, it took you that long to find out. It was fun though having my staff keep the secret from you. But it was worth it because the reaction on your face is priceless. " He laughed.
