Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant novel Chapter 3

Wasn’t he fine when they were quarreling a while ago?

Oh wait, that was a few hours ago.

“I…”

“Not another word and go apologize to Euan George right now. I won’t have your back if he decides to threaten your career.”

Apo…apologize?!

“Director…”

“Go apologize or get lost. Your call!”

Clack!

The phone was hung up.

Riley bit her lip. When was this mess going to end? No place was ever at peace with Euan’s presence.

Aware of the situation, the nurses made way for Riley to Euan’s ward.

The whole room heard what the director said in the end of the phone call, so they didn’t dare to trigger her at this moment. Everyone tried to crack a smile at her.

“Dr. Watson, be careful when you go later…”

“Dr. Watson, don’t you worry about us. We…”

Pacing back and forth in the corridor with a heavy heart, Riley’s face was dead grim. She would rather quit than to apologize to him.

But on a second thought…

Her marriage with Euan was like a broken raft in thunderstorm, which might sink at any moment. She would lose both her career and marriage if she really quitted.

And that would be so embarrassing!

After contemplating, she decided she couldn’t quit.

Riley made up her mind and open to door to the ward…

Euan was leaning on the bed, flipping a file his secretary had sent him. His thick brows were raised slightly as he read it, and he seemed to have gotten much better now.

“…”

He didn’t seem like he was having a high fever at all!

Euan didn’t cast a single gaze at Riley since she walked into the room.

Fully aware he was ignoring her, Riley had no choice but to be the first one to break the silence. “I heard you got a fever.”

She didn’t bother to try to be courteous even though she was the one at fault here. She talked to him in a calm and official tone.

Back then, she was always cautious with her words, but ended up getting his ridicule every single time. Now she was lazy to do that anymore.

Euan didn’t look up at her but continue to fix his eyes at the contract papers he was flipping with his slender fingers. He said blandly, “Shouldn’t my attending doctor know of my medical condition?”

Mocking inadvertently, he emphasized the words “attending doctor” slightly.

She didn’t let it got to her. She had learned Euan would always find wrong in whatever she did.

Feeling her heart beating faster, Riley’s gaze involuntarily fell on Euan’s face. As if it was a curse, she had been thinking about his exquisite features every night before she fell asleep.

“It seems you’re already doing quite well. I’ll stop bothering you then.”

Riley reminded herself, she wanted to leave the encounter with pride and her self esteem intact.

Euan removed the cap of his pen and began to sign the papers swiftly.

His brows furrowed as he heard what she said. He closed the file and picked up another one. Then, he reached for the cup of tea on the table and took a sip while lying slackly in the bed.

His poised manner triggered Riley. What did he want really?

Just when Riley’s legs almost got cramped from the standing, Euan finally finished his tea and said with a cool calm voice, “Dr. Watson, aren’t you going to perform your duty?”

Coming back to her senses, Riley walked up to the bedside and took out the medical record. ‘Fine, I’ll do my duty,’ she thought.

“The fever has already subsided. Your current body temperature is 36.5 degree Celsius. I’ll follow up with your condition tonight.”

Not a word from Euan.

“Was there any blood regurgitation?”

“Does your stomach still hurt?”

“Do you feel feverish?”

With a cool aura, Euan didn’t give her a single gaze but remained silent while scanning through the file in his hands.

Riley couldn’t simply tick the boxes on the medical record if he didn’t say anything. Sensing he was recovering quite well, she gave him some friendly reminder.

“Your stomach bleeding was caused by excessive alcohol consumption. You can’t drink any alcohol for the next whole month.”

“It’ll be better for you to take light food from now on. Porridge is a good choice for your current condition. And it’ll be better to not have any strong tea before you’re fully recovered.”

“Do not drink milk with an empty stomach, it’ll cause excess secretion of gastric acid…”

Before she could finish, Euan shot her a cold gaze. She felt as if the air in the room moved slower as he stared at her with his razor sharp gaze.

“Any other nonsense?”

Riley was at a loss for words upon hearing that.

Nonsense? All those kind reminders she gave were all nonsense to him?

Nice.

Riley couldn’t care much anymore and ticked all the boxes on the medical record. It seemed he was in a good physical condition!

“No. That’s all.”

Damn! She knew she shouldn’t have embarrassed herself like this!

Euan was frowning imperceptibly. She only gave these official medical reminders to her husband?

Huh…

“Good.”

His attitude was fully depicted in his stone cold tone when he said.

Euan reached for the cup again and realized the cup was already empty. Displeasure flashed across his face. “Fill the cup.”

Riley narrowed her eyes. Filled his cup? That was a nurse’s job, and she was a doctor…

Despite what she was thinking, Riley was already walking towards the cup. She decided to conform just this once for the sake of him being so ill.

After pouring him a cup of hot water and put it on the table, Riley reminded him, “It’s hot.”

Without giving her any reaction, Euan looked at the hem of her white coat from the corner of his eyes and retrieved them back onto the white ceramic cup. He took the cup to his lips and blew at the steaming water.
