Camille didn't respond much, her face tensed.
Sienna followed up, "Cami, what if, I mean, what if Ayan knows but didn't tell you? Would you be mad?"
Camille replied firmly, "No. This whole thing has nothing to do with me, and I don't care. So, even if Ayan knows and doesn't tell me, I wouldn't have any feelings about it. I can't let this come between us."
She was speaking to Sienna, but it was also as if she was convincing herself that even if Ayan truly knew and didn't tell her, she couldn't have any emotions about it and certainly shouldn't argue with Ayan because of it.
However, Page's words kept echoing in Camille's mind, casting an inexplicable shadow over her mood. She remained tight-lipped, her expression growing stiffer.
Camille and Sienna didn't stay in the restaurant for long and left for Franklin Bay together.
On the way back, Camille initiated a conversation, "What do you think, should I tell Ayan about today?"
Sienna replied, "It's not a big deal. If you want to know the truth about this, telling him will help him investigate. That way, you won't have to let your mind wander. Although you say it doesn't matter to you, I know that you're probably a little worried deep down. Even though you're not close to them, you've never wanted them to have a tough time."
Sienna saw right through Camille's thoughts. Camille didn't deny or rush to explain. Because, deep down, she did feel that way.
She admitted, "Even if I don't say anything, he probably knows by now who I met and had dinner with. He might even know how many grains of rice I ate."
Ayan had always arranged for someone to protect her. While previously, someone would discreetly follow her when she went out, after the parking garage incident, Ayan grew even more concerned. Therefore, he had someone accompanying Camille all the time, without disrupting her social life and personal space.
Sienna glanced around, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Where are your people?"
Camille couldn't help but find Sienna's reaction amusing. She warned, "You better act normal. Otherwise, you might get mistaken for having ulterior motives towards me, and they'll pull you in for questioning. They might even force you to stop your car."
"Mrs. Simpson, don't say that. Aren't we best friends? You can't let your bodyguards do something cruel to me. I just haven't seen any bodyguards, so I wanted to take a look."
Camille smirked, "Alright, you haven't seen any? I'll have Rex hire a few for you."
Sienna hastily apologized, "I was wrong; I really was. Please, don't. This guy can be just as crazy as Ayan. These two are like peas in a pod."
Of course, she didn't dare to say that Ayan had a high profile, or else Camille might strangle her. Haha.
After a while, they arrived back at Franklin Bay.
The car stopped in front of Camille's mansion. Sienna glanced at Camille through the window and asked, "Do you want me to walk you in?"
Camille replied, "No, thanks!"
"Don't mention it. I was just worried that if the people protecting you found out I didn't accompany you to Mr. Simpson's, Mr. Simpson might think less of me and stop offering me benefits."
Camille let out a cold hum, slammed the door shut, and walked straight into the villa. Sienna followed suit, sharing a laugh before leaving.
As Camille entered the yard, she spotted Ayan's car. It was barely seven o'clock, so he was back from his engagements rather early. She thought to herself and continued inside.
When she reached the entrance, she heard Ayan's voice. He was saying, "Alright, I'll let you know once I've finalized the schedule."
She didn't catch the other side of the conversation, but Ayan responded with a couple more 'yeah's before ending the call.
He put his phone down, and his gaze fell on Camille as she entered the living room. His eyes softened, and his voice was low and husky as he asked, "You're back. Why was it so quiet?"
Camille replied coolly, "You were too engrossed with your phone call, you didn't even notice my presence."
She walked over to sit beside Ayan, and he reached out to give her shoulders a gentle squeeze, his tone teasing. "It was Sophia on the phone. The Dane City project has entered the mid-phase, and they're planning an investment event. She wants me to attend."
"Ah," Camille said, nonchalantly.
Ayan peered at her. "Just an 'ah'?"
