Everyone had left, leaving only Brody and Preston in the meeting room. Naturally, they sat in their original seats. Brody looked at Preston and saw that he had no extra reaction. Brody was somewhat hesitant about how to approach the situation.
There was a long silence from both Brody and Preston. Several times Brody tried to speak, but the words failed to come out. It was only when Preston met Brody's gaze that he spoke, his expression faint, devoid of any chill. He simply asked, "Mr. Armstrong, is there something you want to say to me?"
Brody finally nodded in relief, and his facial expression relaxed somewhat. He looked at Preston and said, "You heard what Horace just said. He secured the collaboration with the Simpson Group, so if the museum project doesn't work out, we can wait. There's no need to rush. Once the Simpson Group's project officially starts, the museum project will naturally come into our hands."
Preston's slight smile appeared on his lips as he listened to Brody's words. There was a faint smile on his face, but his eyes showed no trace of amusement. He replied, "Mr. Armstrong, as the chairman of Armstrong Corp, everything is naturally up to you. I'm just an inconspicuous project director, so it doesn't concern me how you handle things."
Preston's words carried a sharp sting, piercing directly into Brody's heart, leaving his complexion unpleasant.
The two locked eyes for a moment, and Brody's voice turned cold and indifferent as he said, "Mr. Walker, that's not fair of you to say. I'm doing this for your own good. The museum project is the one you'll be taking on next, and I'm simply asking you to wait a little. You saw today how much opposition there was from the executives. If this continues, it will be difficult for me to face others!"
Brody looked troubled, and his attitude towards Preston was reluctant. He had no other choice.
Preston didn't respond much, only showing a faint smile. His tone was no longer as sarcastic as before as he said, "Mr. Armstrong, I understand your predicament, and I'm also anxious. Because I have a feeling that something is off about Horace's announcement today. I even wonder if he had already secured the collaboration with the Simpson Group and didn't inform you, waiting for the most critical moment of the meeting to make the phone call and interrupt. Otherwise, why would he go to the Simpson Group to discuss work without bringing his secretary, going alone?"
Brody was someone easily influenced, and Preston's few words had already swayed his thoughts. However, at present, Ayan securing the project was indeed true. So even though Brody had doubts and suspicions in his heart, he wouldn't show his dissatisfaction too openly.
The two locked eyes for a moment, and Brody's dissatisfied emotions were clearly captured by Preston. He calmly spoke, "Mr. Armstrong, I'm not unhappy with today's outcome. I'm just displeased with Horace's actions. He could have been more transparent about the good news. Why did he wait so long to inform you?"
Preston didn't dwell on the matter regarding Horace any further. It seemed that the discussion about him was temporarily put aside. After all, Brody had already dispersed everyone, so no matter what was said at this point, Brody wouldn't react.
Leaving the meeting room, Brody was in a hurry to meet Horace, so he didn't linger or say much to Preston. Watching Brody's departing figure, Preston's expression became grim. Quintus quickly caught up and stood beside Preston, whispering, "Mr. Walker, what should we do now?"
Preston didn't respond, only emitting a cold snort before turning and walking toward his office.
Once inside his office, Preston closed the door after Quintus entered. He then forcefully threw the cup on the table to the ground.
His eyes were filled with anger, and his voice turned icy as he said, "Clearly, Horace has colluded with Ayan. They had prearranged everything, just so they could prevent my promotion and keep me from obtaining the museum project!"
Preston let out a disdainful snort, and the smile on his face became even more bitter.
But now that everything had been set in motion, it seemed that there was nothing he could do, nor was he allowed to do anything.
He placed all his dissatisfaction on Ayan, even suspecting if everything was intentionally orchestrated by him.
In Horace's office, Brody waited for nearly half an hour before Horace returned.
