Sean quickly shook his head, "Of course not. We're definitely on the same side. I would never do anything to betray you."
He was on the verge of a swearing gesture.
In response to his assurance, Preston smiled lightly, a deep smile evident in his eyes. He said, "No need to be so nervous. I was just joking. I know you will never betray me. But I still want to remind you that Ayan is a cunning and scheming person. He's very calculating. I'm afraid you might unintentionally fall into his trap, so be careful."
Sean nodded, "Don't worry, I understand."
"Good, that's settled then." Preston didn't say anything more. He pushed open the car door and got out. He said, "I'm not going back tonight. You can stay at my place."
"It's okay, I can go back to my apartment."
"You'll stay at my place." It was no longer a question or a polite request; there was a hint of command in his tone. He said, "I might need you to handle something tonight, and it would be more convenient if you stay with me, understood?"
Sean nodded and didn't refuse.
After all, it was work-related, and he didn't think too much about other things.
He watched Preston go upstairs before driving back to Preston's place.
But he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. It was a sense of uncertainty, neither here nor there.
Sean had trouble sleeping and stayed awake until late at night.
Then, in the early hours of the morning, the doorbell rang outside his door. Since he couldn't sleep, he immediately heard it.
He got out of bed, put on his shoes, and walked out, looking through the peephole in the door. Outside stood a few men. What were they doing here at this hour?
Because no one answered, the doorbell turned into knocking.
Sean didn't dare to open the door and even held his breath. As no one responded, the men didn't wait long before leaving.
Shortly after the men left, Sean's phone rang.
He held his breath and answered the call, "Hello?"
"Sean, Preston has betrayed you. Are you still going to hide what you did for him?" It was Kian calling.
Kian's words left Sean in silence, and his mind seemed to pause for a moment.
He couldn't believe it and said, "That's impossible."
"The police received a video evidence of you contacting Louise and threatening her. The evidence is solid. Do you still think it's impossible?"
Sean couldn't hear what Kian was saying anymore. He hung up the phone immediately and called Preston.
Preston didn't answer the first time.
He finally picked up on the second call.
When the call connected, Sean immediately questioned, "Mr. Walker, did you frame everything on me?"
