"It's different, how can it be the same? It's completely different!"
Preston seemed extremely agitated, denying it while moving closer to Camille. His gaze was fixed on her as he said, "Cami, it's not the same at all. It was Ayan who punched me. Why are you apologizing for him? Even if an apology is necessary, it should come from him, not you."
"Preston, there's no difference. If you feel that you need to apologize for this matter to be resolved, then I can apologize on behalf of Ayan."
"I'm not telling you all this so you can apologize on his behalf, Cami. That's not what I meant. I never thought that way. I'm telling you all this because I want you to know that I didn't hurt you. I don't want any misunderstandings between us. What Austin has done towards you made me suspicious only after Ayan left. Don't worry. Not only can Ayan seek justice for you, but I can too. Whatever he can do, I... I can do as well as your friend. I want you to know that you have not just him. You have me as a good friend. Although there are some misunderstandings between us now, I promise we can reconcile and be as good as before. Cami, do you believe me?"
Preston's intense emotions had left Camille speechless and confused. She furrowed her brow tightly, her facial expression stiffening.
Especially his extreme choice of words, it truly left Camille at a loss.
Camille tightly pursed her lips and spoke with a low, hoarse voice, "Preston, if that's how you think, then I truly don't know what else to say. Ayan punched you because of me, but I don't deny that he was wrong. After all, using the excuse of worrying about me and losing rationality is just an excuse. We should not impose these excuses on others. That's why I'm apologizing to you. The reason I'm apologizing to you is also because we're husband and wife, and as a couple, we are a unit. So I have the right to do so. Of course, you can refuse to accept my apology. It's your choice, your right." Camille said calmly and didn't look at Preston anymore. The indifference on her face grew more apparent as she said, "It's getting late. It won't be good if we're too late."
She didn't want any unnecessary topics to be brought up during this troubled time. Such conversations would probably be quite bothersome.
Ayan had done a lot for her, and if other rumors or gossip were to be involved, it would be embarrassing to face him. Even the confidence to continue enjoying the feeling of being pursued by Ayan would probably be lost.
Of course, the last sentence was just a joke. Ultimately, she simply didn't want any rumors to spread about her and cause unnecessary discussions.
After finishing her words, Camille prepared to leave, but Preston grabbed her hand.
Preston's face darkened, and he asked, "Cami, so you've entangled yourself in this again, right? Why are you lying to me? You clearly promised to divorce him. Why can't you keep your word? Is Ayan really that great?"
"Preston, I did say those words, but I didn't lie to you. We haven't reached a point of no return between us, so..."
"What do you mean by a point of no return?"
"I don't know how to say this to you, but this is my business, and I have the ability to make my own judgments, so please don't interfere, okay?"
Camille forcefully pulled her hand away, her expression cold and displeased. She didn't want to continue this argument with Preston because every time they talked privately, it always ended unhappily in the same way.
He didn't want to accept what she said, nor did he want to acknowledge it. So Camille had no interest in continuing the conversation.
It served no purpose and had no meaning.
She had repeated certain things so many times before, and each time felt like a repetition, which annoyed her.
She walked briskly towards her car and opened the door, getting inside and driving away from the parking garage with Preston watching.
Camille arrived about fifteen minutes late, but no one questioned her as the dishes were served soon after.
As for Preston, when Jenson was about to enjoy the meal, he received a phone call.
It was from Preston.
He told Jenson, "I have something else to take care of, I won't be coming over. Today's meal is on me, so enjoy yourselves without hesitation."
Jenson relayed the message to everyone, and they all cheered and raised their glasses, saying, "Long live Mr. Baxter!"
Without Preston around, Camille could relax a little.
