Camille's expression grew heavy; she had an indescribable feeling. Meeting Ayan's gaze, she replied in a soft, low voice, "Fortunately."
"Good thing there's a reason behind it, or else this sudden change would make me feel like our previous relationship was all for naught."
Although she only said one word, Ayan understood its meaning.
He smiled faintly, "Then don't think about this matter anymore. As for Mrs. Bell's message, you've completely fulfilled your promise by relaying it to me. I'll personally handle the next steps and contact Mr. and Mrs. Bell."
Ayan didn't want Camille to do anything that might affect her mood. He knew Camille's soft-hearted nature and her sense of loyalty. Sometimes certain things inadvertently stirred her emotions, leaving her unsettled for a while.
As for Mr. and Mrs. Bell's relationship and the difficulty of dealing with Mr. Mikkola, those were issues he could easily handle and resolve.
After discussing Mrs. Bell's matters, the atmosphere fell into silence again.
His eyes were fixed on her, unblinking, and his straightforward expression made her uncomfortable.
Camille averted her gaze but her posture on the couch seemed awkward. She subtly bit her lip and said impassively, "There's nothing else. I'm leaving."
Camille intended to walk past Ayan on her way out of the office. However, he grabbed her wrist. His deep voice was low as he asked, "Nothing else to say?"
Camille pretended not to understand, "No."
He chuckled, "Really?"
"Yes."
"So distant with me?" He stood up as well, closing the distance between them until they were almost touching. He said, "Are you sure you don't want to come back to the Simpson's mansion with me? If Grandpa and my parents see us going separate ways, they'll surely start nagging me again."
Considering their low status within the Simpson family, he sounded somewhat aggrieved. Camille's heart softened, and her lips twitched slightly.
But recalling last night's events, Camille suppressed the rising curve of her lips and returned to her impassive demeanor.
She said, "Returning to the Simpson's mansion is something for later tonight. It's still early now."
Not refusing, not agreeing.
Ayan chuckled, then released her wrist to hold her tightly in his arms. His gaze was tender as he looked into her eyes, his voice husky as he asked, "Why such a strong reaction? Can't I even hold your hand?"
She hesitated for a moment, her eyes rolling, a faint stiffness in her expression. Then she looked at Ayan and asked, "Did you find out?"
Ayan didn't speak, but the subtle, shallow smile at the corner of his mouth was answer enough.
Camille didn't want to continue hiding, releasing her grip on the hair. The hair in her palm was the same shade as Eileen's.
She said directly, "I want to find out if she really is Preston's sister. What's her relationship with Preston?"
Ayan had speculated about their relationship before, but Eileen and Preston were in separate locations at that time, both highly cautious due to the incident involving Austin. So, Ayan couldn't carry out his initial plan.
His suggested action was not inaction.
He smiled faintly, watching Camille reveal the truth, realizing that even if he wanted to deceive her, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to coordinate with Kian beforehand. After all, she had just taken the hair from Eileen, and she wasn't even sure if she would succeed. After Eileen left, she would be out of reach. The two of them were always together.
