Chapter 1043
Skylar stared at Joe in disbelief. But whatever surprise she felt paled in comparison to the complete devastation on Vera’s face. She looked like she was about to shatter at any moment. And yet, Joe kept piling it on.
“It’s better to make things clear while my wife is here.”
The words “make things clear” and “my wife” hit Vera like a series of slaps.
She felt as if someone was repeatedly striking her across the face. Her head spun, and all she wanted to do was run away.
“I…” she began, but the rest of the words tumbled out a jumbled mess. She had never felt so humiliated in
her life.
“Joe and I were just high school classmates. I came to him today because I knew he could help me. There’s nothing else between us.”
The word’s barely finished before she bolted from the Galaxy Villa, her steps hurried and frantic.
After Vera left, Joe turned to Skylar and said, “She’s gone. Let’s head to bed.”
Skylar was at a loss for words.
The whole scene with Vera… Was that his way of proving something to her? Was it to show that what people said about him and Vera wasn’t true? That they were just high school friends?
Did he care so much about whether she misunderstood?
“Joe, you…” Skylar started, but Joe didn’t meet her eyes.
Instead, he took her hand and led her upstairs toward the bedroom. “I’m tired. Let’s sleep.”
They shared the same room and bed that night, but nothing happened. They really just slept.
Meanwhile, Vera sped back home, heart racing as she gripped the steering wheel tightly.
Her home had tight security; she didn’t have to worry about someone coming after her. Honestly, things weren’t as dire as she had made them out to be. She just saw it as an opportunity to see Joe again.
But she never expected Joe to be so cold.
Yes, back in high school, they were the perfect match in everyone’s eyes.
They belonged to the same social circle, attending events together and surrounded by friends who always assumed they were meant to be. Even the family elders secretly tried to set them up as a couple, and Vera shared their thoughts.
After all, during their entire time in high school, Joe had never shown interest in any other girls who liked him. He only ever remembered her name.
They even spent time daydreaming about the future together on group trips abroad.
She had assumed they had an unspoken understanding about their relationship. But just now, Joe’s words hit her like a slap in the face, jolting her back to reality; only then did she finally calm down. Looking back, Joe had never once told her he liked her.
It had always been other people who said he liked her, and she had just believed them.

The readers' comments on the novel: My Flash Romance With the Richest Mogul
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
