At first, there was a flutter of excitement that soon turned into hesitation. However, now, Ted found himself irresistibly drawn to Janine, unable to fight the urge to get closer.
He thought that rather than overthinking everything and letting his emotions run wild, he should take a more proactive approach.
Janine didn't notice Ted's gaze as she grabbed a pair of slippers and said, "Please sit and wait for a moment. I'll go serve dinner."
Thankfully, she had made extra food, planning to save some for a quick stir-fry in the morning.
The dishes she prepared were quite simple—shrimp with zucchini and garlic-sauteed greens.
"I usually cook something quick when I get home from work, so don't mind me," Janine said, treating Ted like a younger brother.
He felt a bit shy about the simplicity of the meal.
She then pulled out two bottles of drinks from the fridge. Normally, she didn't drink much soda, but she kept some at home for kids, who liked it when they visited during the hot weather.
Looking at the two simple dishes before him, Ted felt that they were visually appealing and fragrant. It had been years since he had tasted home-cooked meals like these.
After taking a bite, his eyes lit up. "Janine, your cooking is excellent!"
He had eaten dishes from various chefs at fine restaurants, but it was rare for anything to make him want to go back for seconds.
Suddenly, he found himself wanting more than just one serving.
Although Janine's children often praised her cooking, hearing such compliments from someone less familiar brought her unexpected joy. She smiled and said, "It's just home-cooked meals."
"Home cooking really tests a person's culinary skills. If done well, it has that comforting taste of home. If not, it can be quite unappetizing.
"I sometimes cook for myself, but every time it turns out inedible. Most of it ends up in the trash, so I've given up on cooking and mostly eat out or order takeout," Ted said.
Janine was somewhat surprised. "What about your wife?"

The readers' comments on the novel: My Flash Romance With the Richest Mogul
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
