Joe was still clad in the same suit Skylar had seen him wear outside the restaurant. 

Under the dim light from her phone, his features looked sharp and defined, lending him a mysterious and 

aloof air. 

Skylar paused on his face for a moment. Then, she changed her shoes and walked toward the couch. 

Unable to see clearly in the darkness, she accidentally stepped on something with her left foot and f 

backward. 

“Ah!” 

Joe happened to be right behind her. Upon hearing her scream, he instinctively took a long stride forward 

and reached out to steady Skylar. 

They were very close to each other. 

Skylar’s face was almost pressed against Joe’s chest. 

Even through the fabric of his shirt and suit, she could feel the muscular contours beneath. His powerful 

heartbeat resonated in her ears as well. 

Her mind went blank for a moment. 

When Joe came to his senses, his entire body tensed up. His arm had unintentionally pressed against Skylar’s shoulder. Feeling the warmth of her skin through several layers of clothing, his arm felt numb 

His other arm, which had caught her, happened to land on her slim waist. She was so slender that her waist could be held with just two hands. 

The room was very dark, but it felt like they could see each other’s eyes when their gazes met. 

Joe’s gaze deepened. Almost involuntarily, he began to lower his head. 

Just as his lips were about to touch hers, Skylar’s phone suddenly rang. 

In the silence of the villa, the ringtone was particularly loud, snapping both of them back to reality. 

Joe glanced at Skylar’s phone and noticed the caller ID–it was Christopher. At once, he released her and adjusted his tie. 

“Your phone is ringing,” he said in a slightly lower tone. 

Seeing that it was Christopher calling, Skylar immediately declined the call. 

Had 

Christopher not given up even after that beating she gave him in the parking lot? 

“Are you not going to answer?” Joe walked past Skylar and sat on the couch. 

“What?” Skylar was a bit distracted and didn’t hear what Joe had said. His voice sounded colder and deeper than before. 

As she recalled what had happened before, she wondered if he was going to kiss her

“Are you not going to answer Christopher’s call? Joe felt a tightness in his chest, a sensation he couldnt quite place. When he asked again, his tone was even colder than before.
