Joe, who rarely drank so much that his steps would falter, cupped her face with both hands. He leaned in, pressing a hard kiss to her lips, which were squished into a pout.
Skylar hadn’t expected this from him. “What are you doing?” she asked.
“I want to sleep with you,” Joe said, his tone heavy. He kissed her again before she could respond.
Skylar’s strength was no match for Joe’s. He was like an unyielding wall, impossible to break through.
Her rationality shattered into pieces as Joe kissed her hard.
Joe knew her body all too well. His hands seemed to set her ablaze, igniting every inch of her skin.
Joe went wild when he was drunk. They spent the entire morning in a frenzy in bed. The sheets were left in disarray, and several used condoms littered the floor.
It took Skylar a long time to feel connected to her body again. She wasn’t sure how long she had been in a daze after everything stopped.

I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
