Chapter 59 Counterfeit Medicine
So many men showed up out of nowhere, and they apprehended everyone in Boleite Medical Clinic. That freaked both Shirley and Simon out.
The strangers looked especially mean, and it seemed they were adamant about killing everyone inside Boleite Medical Clinic. Hence, it was understandable that Shirley was drowning in fear.
Christopher couldn’t help frowning, though. He knew about those men, and they rarely showed up in the city. They certainly don’t usually barge in like that.
In a trembling voice, Shirley asked, “I am the owner of Boleite Medical Clinic. Excuse me, officers, but what is this about?”
“What is this about? Seriously? One of our men came to this clinic, and you gave him some bogus medication. He would’ve died if he wasn’t sent to the hospital in time. Do you realize how serious that is?” roared the leader angrily.
“There has to be some mistake. We only get medicine of the best quality and have never sold counterfeits.”
Shirley was in a mess. Simon and I are the only ones who restock our medicine, so there is no way they are counterfeits.
“This is the analysis report from our lab, and it proves that the medicine from your clinic is counterfeit. How dare you lie about your crimes? Boys, take them away!”
The leader showed them the proof, and it was clear that the medicine was sold by Boleite Medical Clinic. Suddenly, everything made sense to Shirley. She turned to Simon and shouted, “Simon Lawrence, you destroyed my entire family!”
Simon was so scared that he was trembling at the time. It was true. He was the culprit who bought those counterfeit medicine. A doctor’s salary was extremely high, but he was a gambling addict and had lost a lot of money. Hence, he tried to make some extra cash by selling counterfeits. He assumed that everything would be okay since those counterfeit medicine wouldn’t kill anyone, and it was unlikely that Shirley would examine the stock carefully.
Who would’ve thought that disaster would actually strike?
“Christopher, Christopher! You are one of them, so please talk to them about this…” requested Shirley who thought of Christopher when she was in that dire situation.
Christopher could tell that Simon was the guilty one because Shirley was the owner. She didn’t need to use counterfeits since she had the entire clinic to herself. Besides, Julianna trusts Shirley and has vouched for her…
Christopher nodded, then walked to the muscular leader. The former saluted and said, “Hi, I used to serve in the army and was discharged two days ago. Can we talk privately?”
The leader turned his attention to Christopher, then nodded. They were comrades in a way, so the former felt compelled to hear the latter out.
When they were in a secluded spot, Christopher fished his identification documents out of his wallet without hesitating. He handed it to the leader, who almost scared himself to tears after reading the content.
The document clearly stated that Christopher was the General.
A general! He is a general of the country, and there is no mistaking it. That stamp proves that this document is legit.
The leader was also convinced because no one would have the guts to lie to a burly man like him. He would have to be insane to try to con me with a forged document.
“Greetings, General. Please allow me, Zachary Jensen, the leader of the local department, to salute you.”
Zachary was truly stunned. Christopher was only in his twenties, but he managed to rise through the ranks and become a general. That was an incredible accomplishment.
Zachary didn’t need to hear any story. That document itself was enough to get even his boss to salute Christopher.
After Christopher saluted in return, he calmly informed, “I am on a special mission and need to keep my identity a secret, so don’t tell anyone about it. Don’t even let your comrades know about me.”
“Understood,” replied Zachary excitedly.
“Anyway, the Simon guy is probably the culprit, and the owner is innocent, so just take Simon with you,” ordered Christopher calmly.
Zachary didn’t dare to protest or anything. Christopher’s rank was too high, so his words were akin to official military command.
“Yes, General,” replied Zachary sincerely.
“Okay, let’s go back out there. Oh, and don’t reveal my identity. That is an order.”
Christopher only let Zachary out of the place after he reminded the latter of his orders. When they left, Christopher calmly announced, “Shirley, I’ve spoken to him, and he said that you are innocent. Simon, however, must be taken away, and the clinic must be closed for three days.”
Shirley instantly sighed a breath of relief upon hearing that. Closing shop for three measly days was the most lenient punishment, so she quickly said, “Thank you, Christopher. What I did earlier… It was wrong, and I am sorry.”
Simon, on the other hand, cried out in fear when he heard about how he would be taken away. He shouted, “Christopher, Christopher, please. I was wrong. Please put in a good word for me too. I am truly sorry and have learned my mistake.”
“Being a doctor is a noble calling; unfortunately, you are not worthy of being one for now. Take him away,” ordered Christopher harshly.
