"Then why would you..."
Tremaine's dark eyes were calm. "It's because she still has me in her heart that she will fulfill my only wish before I die, that is to live on well in my stead."
Matthew was shaken.
Before Tremaine left, Matthew said, "Tremaine, give me some time to think about it. I may not agree."
However, Tremaine replied, "You will."
Matthew persisted, "I really want Yesseca to survive, but I also can't ignore your life."
"That's not what I meant." Tremaine stared into Matthew's eyes. "You also have someone you love. If the person you love dies, can you still live alone?"
Matthew's breath froze.
He understood what Tremaine meant.
When he saw that Matthew had gone quiet, Tremaine continued, "You can't. That's why, Matthew, do you reckon whether it's better for two people to die, or would one be better?"
Matthew remained silent.
Tremaine patted him on the shoulder. "You will agree."
Then he left.
After he left Agaphen City, Tremaine made a detour towards the hospital.
He stared at Yesseca.
He didn't enter, naturally, but peer into the ward from somewhere nearby.
He saw that Yesseca was laughing.
Preslie, her little sister in all but blood, was dressed up in such a comical manner that Yesseca couldn't stop laughing from amusement.
Tremaine looked at them, his lips turned up at the corners into a smile.
That's great.
Yesseca was still able to laugh.
To be able to see Yesseca smile and laugh in the last moments of his life...he was more than content with it.
A new day came again.
Tremaine was having breakfast with Rorita when he suddenly received a call from Matthew.
Tremaine disconnected the call.
He then stood up. "I'm going to the presidential office."
Rorita nodded.
Tremaine was about to leave when he suddenly heard Rorita say, "Mr. Tremaine, your necktie isn't tied well. Can I..." she hesitated for a moment before she continued. "Can I adjust it for you?"
