My Heart only Beats for You (Natalie Godfrey) novel Chapter 2548

No sooner had the words left her mouth, Dory's stomach let out a rumble.

Her face immediately turned red.

Was this child hungry?

She held onto Dory's hand and said, "Let's go. I'll take you for a meal."

Dory refused.

"Aunt, l-l have something to eat at home," she said quietly.

"Did your mother cook for you?" Yesseca subconsciously asked her next question.

Dory's voice got even quieter, "I cooked for myself."

Yesseca started.

A child this young?

How could she cook on her own?

"Are you even tall enough?" she exclaimed in surprise.

Dory gestured with her hands. "Once I move the stool, I will be."

Yesseca simply couldn't imagine that scene.

Such a young child...was it because a lot of adults chased after her back to feed her, and as a result, she was able to become an independent cook?

Yesseca couldn't help but ask, "Isn't your mother going to cook for you?"

"She...she is very busy." Her voice was so quiet, it was practically a whisper.

Her mother was busy playing cards all day long.

Yesseca came to a sudden realization.

She also used to be a child of poverty.

Naturally, she knew what life was like for a poor person.

Many parents were busy with work all day in order to earn money, hence they had no time to care about their children.

Back when she was a child, she also had to cook on her own like Dory did at her age.

But more than ten years had passed since then, and the economy was growing steadily. Now, life was no longer the same as it used to be.

Yesseca truly couldn't imagine that there was still such a young child who needed to cook by herself.

It seemed that the financial situation of this child was really poor.

"Then what about your father? Is he also very busy?" Yesseca asked again.

All of a sudden, Dory fell silent.
