As soon as Oliver spoke, Agatha approached with a scowl.
"You're here?" Oliver asked with concern. "Dr. Foster, how is Esther?"
"Brace yourself." Agatha sighed, looking weary and crestfallen as she settled into a chair. She explained, "Her immune system is severely weakened, and her condition is worse than we expected. I've done everything I can, but I can barely keep her alive. How long she'll live is now up to fate."
Oliver asked in astonishment, "You can't do anything more?"
"Oliver, Esther's condition wasn't caused by me. I can treat her body, but I can't heal her heart. She's on the brink of death."
Bradley couldn't believe it and shouted, "This can't be!"
Agatha said, her tone calm and without anger, "Why not?
"Warner, you're well aware of what Esther endured. She was pregnant and sent to prison right after her diagnosis. You've experienced jail, so you know what life is like there. Do you think her body can withstand all that?
"Also, from what I know, you instructed inmates to mistreat and torment her due to your grudge against Esther. Did you expect her injuries to magically disappear?
"She gave birth in a prison hospital prematurely and with complications. Ordinary pregnant women need rest and recovery after childbirth. Consider if Esther had the conditions to recuperate properly.
"After her release, you, better than anyone, know what she went through. Why did you think someone like Esther could endure your mistreatment?
"If all you ever wanted was Esther's life, then congratulations. Your quest for revenge has now yielded results.
