Chapter 0353
“Can we declare her dead?”
“We can, but why would you want that?
“Her family will stop worrying about her, and we can keeper alive under our control.”
“Are you seriously considering that as an option?”
“Yes, I have no doubt about it. That worhan changed so many lives with her ambition. She denied me the chance to know my father, nearly killed my… cousin, embezzled from the Palmer family company more times than anyone should, and if she hadn’t entered my uncle’s life, Mary wouldn’t have ended up with my father. My mother would have been happy with him, and I would have known him. I wouldn’t feel this enormous void,” Alden said, his voice filled with quiet determination.
“Would have‘ doesn’t exist, my friend,” Ignatius replied. But if it will give you peace, we’ll see what we can do. Give me this week, and I’ll move everything necessary to make it happen.”
“Thanks, Nat! Now let’s head home–my mother is waiting for dinner, and I don’t like keeping her waiting. By the way, have you ever lost hope of winning her over?”
“Alden!”
“I’m just saying, you’re like a father to me. If there’s anyone I trust completely, it’s you. I know how you feel about my mother, and I know she’s stubborn. That’s why I ask,” Alden said, curious.
“Your mother is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever know She’s an incredible woman, but she doesn’t want anyone in her life. She closed her heart the day your father died.”
“I just hope that one day, you and she can be something more. I don’t like the idea of her spending her whole life alone. She’s an extraordinary woman.”
After a few more minutes in the car, they arrived at a beautiful and luxurious house far from the noise of the city.
“Darling, Alden is back. We’ll continue our conversation later,” said Katherine as she wheeled herself toward the
entrance.
“Where’s the most beautiful woman in the world?” Alden called out cheerfully, extending a bouquet of freesias.
Katherine looked at him with her large, beautiful eyes and opened her arms to embrace him.
“My boy, I was so worried about you. You usually arrive early when you travel. Did something happen?”
“I’ll tell you during dinner. Come on, I’m starving!” Alden said, lifting her slightly and pushing her wheelchair toward the dining room.
Tell me, what happened? You worried me when you changed your arrival date from yesterday to today.”
“I had to attend to some business at the company, but everything’s going smoothly. Oh, and I happened to run into Maximus Palmer,” Alden said, carefully omitting the darker details of his day.
He didn’t want to burden his mother with the sinister details of his plans for his father’s murderer. To her, he remained the attentive son, a businessman who traveled often but devoted his free time to caring for her.
“Alden, I’m not sure I like that. I’d rather you told me you were out with a girl. I’d love to take care of a grandchild, you know? Can you imagine–a little one with your beautiful eyes and charming smile, or a little gir
