Peter stood face–to–face with Marcus Bartz, the man’s presence a stark reminder of a past he had tried to bury. The good mood Peter had arrived with vanished instantly. A chill coursed through him as he understood what this visit could mean. His previously relaxed demeanor shifted his dark eyes now sharp, their intensity scrutinizing Marcus, whose stance exuded authority and a sense of mystery.
“Hello, Marcus. It seems you’ve been left speechless,” Peter finally said, his voice measured.
Marcus appeared momentarily lost, his expression a mixture of disbelief and uncertainty.
“Theodore,” Peter called out, his tone firm. “Change of plans. I do want that coffee. It’s too early for a drink, and this conversation will take time. Bring it to the study, and make sure Ethan has breakfast on time. I don’t want any interruptions.”
Marcus barely registered the command as Peter moved past him, but before Peter could leave the room, Marcus grabbed his arm and pulled him into a tight embrace. Tears welled in Marcus’s eyes as he clung to Peter, overwhelmed by a torrent of emotions.
“Marcus, calm down! Please,” Peter said, his voice strained as he tried to extricate himself from the unexpected hug.
“It’s you, Peter! You’re alive! But… but I saw you–I identified your remains!” Marcus’s voice broke as he stared at Peter’s face, his hand reaching up to touch it as if to confirm it wasn’t an illusion.
“Let’s go to the study and talk. Theodore will bring us coffee. We clearly have a lot to discuss,” Peter said, steering Marcus toward the study.
[Meanwhile, in the Swiss Alps]
“Madam, please, you need to eat something. I can’t keep giving you nutrients intravenously–your veins are too damaged,” Eliya pleaded, her tone both firm and concerned
“I told you I’m not eating anything! I want my husband here!” Alexia screamed, her fury reverberating through
the room.
“Madam, the master left several days ago and didn’t say when he’d return.”
“Don’t you have his number? Call him and tell him I want to s
him!”
Alexia was determined to make her husband’s life as miserable as her own. If he had legally declared them married, then he was legally obligated to care for her. If he had chosen this hell for her, she would ensure he was dragged into it with her.
“Madam, I’m only to use his number for emergencies. This isn’t one.”
“Of course it’s an emergency! Look!” Alexia exclaimed, moving the fingers of her right hand slightly.
Eliya froze, astonished. For Alexia, even that small motion was a monumental achievement. Without hesitation, she rushed to inform Mr. Palmer but refrained from mentioning anything to Alexia. She hurried to the kitchen and dialed his number repeatedly, only to find that it was turned off. Reluctantly, she gave up, knowing he would see her calls and respond eventually.
“Madam, I called the master, but he’s not answering. I’m sure he’ll contact us as soon as he sees the missed calls.”
“Good, Eliya. Now, if you don’t mind, leave me alone.”
“But, madam-”
