Chapter 0184

Candice Ignored Sonia’s haughty tone but continued to look for Chad in the crowd. She couldn’t
see him with so many people around.
Sonia was about to leave when she sensed Candice’s disinterest.
Candice abruptly asked, “Where’s Alex?”
Sonia’s smile returned as she said. “If Lex needs to hear something, I can pass it on. He’s not free to meet with you right now.”
Persisting, Candice queried, “Is Dr. Sul in?”
Sonia was initially perplexed, but she immediately regained her composure.
“Why are you asking about Dr. Sui?” she asked.
Candice took out her phone, meaning to call Alex and check with him to see if his uncle was
around, rather than wasting time on small talk. She was dead set on meeting Chad today.
As she was pulling out her phone, Helen’s displeased voice echoed from behind, “Aether
Corporation really makes an impression. They even have the secretaries from the Secretary’s
Office acting as receptionists at the door.”
Sonia’s face stiffened at the sound of Helen’s voice.
She was aware of Helen’s dislike for her, or rather, Helen’s indifference to her. Thus, she chose not
to engage with Helen.
Quietly, she stepped back, attempting to seem meek and compliant.
Candice stood her ground. She eyed the middle–aged man with Helen and tightened her lips.
Helen and Chad were present, but Daniel and Alex were not around.
Candice gripped her hand tightly and stepped forward. She said gently, “Dr. Sui, I’m Candice. Dr.
Brooks sent me to talk to you about my grandfather’s condition.”
Chad had a rich voice. He had a solemn look as he glanced at Candice and asked, “Are you the
patient’s relative that Vince referred to?”
Candice nodded, saying, “Dr. Brooks said my grandfather’s illness needs urgent treatment. He
mentioned that you’re an acclaimed neurologist and that under your care, the chances of success
are high.”

Chad’s brow furrowed, and he queried. “He said that?”
“I have to tell you this,” he said, shaking his head and expressing regretfully. “The risk in your grandfather’s case remains high, no matter the doctor.”
Candice’s complexion paled at Chad’s words. She said quietly, “But you haven’t examined him yet.
“I find you interesting.” Helen sneered, interrupting their conversation.
“I see you can always find different reasons to get close to my family.” She ridiculed. “You discovered Chad is a doctor and are now using your grandfather as an excuse? Are you going to use this as an excuse to cling to Alex?”
Hearing Helen’s taunts, Candice replied, “Mrs. Elysian, I don’t understand your spiteful assumptions about me, but I ask that you show respect for my grandfather.”
“Respect? You dare speak of respect to me?” Helen’s face was twisted with contempt. “You made your own mother kneel in public, yet you talk of respect?”
Helen’s insults intensified.
Candice shut her eyes. She looked at Chad and pleaded, “Dr. Sui, you’ll be at Silverstone Hospital tomorrow. Is it okay if you assess my grandfather’s condition before making a decision?”
Helen’s contemptuous and irritated gaze remained fixed on Candice, but she pretended not to
notice.
She couldn’t pass up the opportunity to save Joe. He was her sole family, having raised her since
childhood.
“What’s happening here?” Alex’s deep voice suddenly filled the room.
Surprised, Candice looked up.
Alex stood nearby. His gaze was fixed on Candice, and he asked sternly. “Who gave you
permission to be here?”
Candice’s eyes flickered slightly as she explained, “I’m here to see Dr. Sui.”
“This is an event hosted by Aether Corporation, and you’re no longer part of us,” Alex remarked, his deep eyes giving nothing away.
“Truthfully, Candice belongs here. It’s the Blue Artifact celebration, and she contributed
significantly to that project,” Sonia interjected quietly, seemingly in Candice’s defense.

As Sonia concluded, Helen let out a mocking chuckle before Sonia could even maintain her calm facade.
“How very considerate of you,” Helen said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Sonia hesitated, then instinctively glanced at Candice.
Facing such blatant derision from Helen, Sonia couldn’t help but expect a similar reaction from Candice.
Yet Candice remained unruffled and answered smoothly, “Mr. Elysian, my resignation isn’t official yet. I am still your company employee.”
In response, Alex snorted, “You seriously stop at nothing to achieve your goals.”
“I’m just stating the facts,” she replied.
