Chapter 0297
Candice looked at her and suddenly recalled how Nadia had once said that it was a pity Sonia wasn’t in reality TV dramas. No one was better than her at speaking in double meanings. Now,
she had said so much, all for the sake of saying that Candice didn’t have any rights or
qualifications to be spending time with the old man.
Candice paused for a moment and as she was just about to speak, she heard a displeased voice coming from behind. “She’s an outsider? Then what does that make you? How is it that I didn’t
know when you became a part of the Elysian family?!”
Old Mr. Elysian approached angrily, leaning on his cane, glaring at Alex and scolding. “Come over
here!!
Candice was stunned momentarily. Turning her head to look at the old man, she whispered, “Don’t get angry. It’s not worth it.” It was not due to anything else but genuine concern for the old man’s
health
Alex looked up at her, his frown barely noticeable, as if suppressing some impatience.
Candice spoke calmly. “The doctor said Grandpa should avoid getting angry. Alex, if you’re
worried about Grandpa, take Sonia away with you.”
Sonia’s face turned cold. She looked at Candice in disbelief. Who gave her the right to command her in such a mistress–like tone? Almost instantly, the look in her eyes towards Candice became
venomous.
Candice, unaware of Sonia’s reaction, kept her gaze on Alex, waiting for his response. Alex remained silent for a moment, his eyes filled with turbulent thoughts. Candice belatedly remembered that Alex had been somewhat taciturn since they met at the hospital today. His thoughts seemed to be deep. As if suppressing something.
She pursed her lips, about to speak, when suddenly she heard Sonia chimed in tearfully. “I’m sorry. Grandpa Elysian, it’s my fault for speaking out of turn. Please don’t be angry with Lex. I’m just not feeling well, so I’m a little fearful and I spoke without thinking.”
The old man glanced at her, then averted his gaze with disgust. “Why are you crying in public? Am
L, an old man, bullying you?”
Sonia’s usual tricks did not work on old Mr. Elysian. She could only look at Alex pitifully.
Alex did not even so much as look at her. He went to his grandfather’s side and his attitude was respectful. “I’ll take you home in a bit.”
