My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s) novel Chapter 323

Candice held her phone and quietly watched Alex. After all, having worked for so many years, she wasn't completely clueless. When she sensed something was amiss last night, she took advantage of a moment while calling Yana to casually turn on the recording function.

Originally, she intended to gather evidence against Xavier, but unexpectedly, she had ended up with evidence against Sonia and Francis.

Looking at the remaining 21% battery on her phone, she had already opened the file transfer assistant and sent the recording over for safekeeping.

Alex's shirt wasn't fully buttoned, and his prominent Adam's apple was still faintly visible. The thin dawn light illuminated him from behind, making it hard for Candice to discern his expression.

She could only hear his voice, "Why should I testify for you?"

His tone was casual without taking it too seriously.

Candice paused, not surprised. She was suing Sonia, and it would be strange for Alex to assist her. But it didn't matter.

She raised her eyebrows, the charming look in her eyes from last night replaced by a calm demeanor. Her voice was slightly hoarse but resolute. "I'm just informing you that this evidence is sufficient."

Her gaze fell on the phone, and she chuckled lightly, "She was foolish to say everything herself."

Candice still felt a bit sore. She slowed down and sat on the sofa.

The room still carried a sticky smell that hadn't completely dissipated. She subtly furrowed her brow. Even if she appeared indifferent on the surface, she couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable inside, especially with Alex standing there.

A moment of silence passed, and Alex didn't respond.

Until a short ringtone interrupted the silence.

Candice looked up at Alex, who paused briefly before answering the call.

Being some distance away, she couldn't hear what the matter was, but she could see his expression turning cold after the call.

After the call ended, Alex directly looked at Candice. "There's work at the company. I'm leaving."

Candice acknowledged with a sound and didn't say much.

The strained peace between the two wasn't enough to encourage further communication.

After a slight pause, Alex bent down to pick up his coat and walked straight toward the door.

Candice watched his tall figure. With drooping eyelids, she said, "Alex."

Alex paused and looked over.

She remained calm and spoke after a brief silence, "Last night was just an accident. Can I ask you not to tell anyone about it?"

It was one thing for her to be candid, but spreading it around wouldn't be good.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she finished speaking, Alex's voice, cold and mocking, resounded, "Who are you afraid will find out?"

His deep and gloomy eyes stared at Candice. His thin lips curled upward as he sneered, "Rest assured, I'm not that idle, and besides, you're just like that."

After saying that, Alex left the room.

Candice relaxed a bit, but the room still felt stuffy, and that lingering scent seemed to be haunting her.

After sitting for a while, she got up and went to the window to get some fresh air.

When Yana arrived, the room's scent had mostly dissipated.
