Chapter 0035
Upon their arrival in Noxville, a representative from their business partner was already waiting for them at the airport since early morning.
For several years now, Alex had been accompanied by Candice on these business trips. Thus, the representative immediately approached them and pushed over them with enthusiasm.
Sonia was left on the sidelines. With a pale face, she tugged timidly on Alex’s sleeve.
Negotiations proceeded smoothly because they had worked with this company many times before.
Candice, taking out some papers from her bag, distributed coples to Alex and their business partner.
Then, turning to Sonia as if by habit, she instructed. “Make sure to arrange our hotel accommodations.”
Stunned and unable to engage in the conversation, Sonia felt even more uncomfortable as Candice treated her like an intern.
She pursed her lips, standing motionless for a while. Her eyes turned red as she looked at Alex
Candice, realizing her error, quickly corrected herself, “Oh, sorry, I thought you were Kayla.”
Sonia replied quietly. “It’s fine.”
Candice, taken aback for a moment, gave Sonia a brief, indifferent glance before addressing Kayla behind her. “Book the hotel please, Do you remember Mr. Tumer’s dietary restrictions?”
Sonia’s face grew even paler.
She claimed to be sick and stayed in her hotel room instead of going out to dinner, She looked at Alex with a hopeful expression, asking softly, “Lex, would you take me there?”
Alex had a scheduled dinner with Mr. Turner, and Candice assumed he would decline Sonia’s request.
To her surprise, Alex agreed, “Okay, I’ll escort you.”
He turned his head around and told Candice, “I’ll catch up with you all later.”
However, Alex was delayed for so long that he missed the entire dinner.
After Candice saw Mr. Tumer out, she hailed a taxi back and went back to the hotel.
The door to Sonia and Alex’s room was tightly shut, leaving it uncertain if they were inside.
The business dealings in Noxville wrapped up swiftly, and Candice anticipated that would be the last of it.
Unexpectedly, a photo was circulated online out of the blue. It captured a moment from the night she had interacted with Humphrey.
From the angle of the shot, it appeared as though she was throwing herself at Humphrey.
Kayla brought the photo to Candice’s attention, expressing her concern, “Candice, could this cause issues for you?”
Candice viewed the photo with a stoic face and then opened the WhatApp group chat.
The chat was lively, with members discussing various topics ranging from gaming to luxury cars.
She browsed through the messages but found no mention of the photo.
Yet, the moment she was about to leave the chat, a new message appeared.
“Who snapped that shot of Candice and that old man? It’s sensational!”
Candice stared at the screen of her phone, gazed at someone who should not be there, and laughed at her.
Soon, someone tagged Alex, asking him provocatively. “What’s your reaction to seeing Candice and Humphrey interacting intimately?”
This query seemed to strike a nerve, leading to a flurry of messages from the group members.
After about thirty seconds, Alex finally responded with a single, blunt word.
“Scram!”
